I really want to play this game...

So I've never played artifact as I was put off by the lack of current players, but always found the mechanics and strategy interesting. I'd always wanted to play it but I'm unsure whether I should buy the game or just wait till it gets updated. Any advice?

    [Fan-Fiction] Haul Long, Life Short

    November 28, 2019.

It was a typical Thursday early morning. 59 degrees, cool enough to make you regret coming out of the shower too fast.

I get to work and open up my calendar.

    FUCK.

I'm expected to work overtime everyday this week. When did my life get like this? Being miserable, overworked, nothing to ever look forward to. Where was I last year in my life?

Heh. I realize it's the Artifact anniversary. Not much was different then. I'm at the same shit job and living the same boring life as I was then. But seeing that "Artifact 2018" teaser trailer drop during TI7, watching Day9 discuss how Artifact allowed you to commander your Dota team. I was so happy then I thought.

My manager, Richard, comes. "Hey listen we've underestimated how much catch up work we have to get done after those unfortunate lay offs but in order for us to stay in the green this year we need to extend those extra hours".

I fucking hate Richard. Here I am fucking reminiscing over the good times and my dick head manager comes to ruin it.

    "Sure Richard, I understand".

My manager, Richard, made me think of Richard Garfield. He was the only other guy with the name Richard that ever had any significance in my life. I remember watching his promo videos and thinking how cool this guy was. How he was a genius who invented magic, to which Artifact had some similarities with the color scheme. He invented the micro transaction after baseball cards for crying out loud!

But every interview he ever gave always made excuses for what went wrong. He never really took responsibility. Man, I trusted that guy. Eh, I know it was just my fanboyism....nah that guy's a dick!

During my lunch break I play Dota Underlords on my phone. It's a fun game. But I was lying to myself when I said how much better it was than Artifact when it first launched in early access. I decide when I get home I will drink some whiskey and just fucking make some decks and play bots because even though it won't exactly be the same as it was when I played real people, I can pretend if just for a moment that I could be fulfilled again.

It's 8pm, I'm home. As I pour myself a few shots of whiskey in a tall milk glass for no fucking reason, I notice the blue text of Artifact in my steam library "update required". Wtf. Must be a cloud sync glitch or something.

HOLY FUCKING RICHARD DONKEY BALLS THE RELEASE IS HERE.

All cards free? Then, then what happens to our current cards? UPGRADED TO ANIMATED ARTWORK AND WILL NOT BE REPRODUCED? Good thing I kept my entire card collection!! Let me check the steam market, I have a few dollars, I'll buy a few more Axecoins.

What's this?! Valve has bought back all remaining Artifact cards on the steam market for whatever price they were listed for.

I shoot up on Reddit to see people FURIOUS. So many comments of people feeling betrayed by Valve.

One comment reads "How was I supposed to know this game was going to be fixed, FUCK YOU VALVE NOW I HAVE NOTHING."

Another comment reads "Is this legal?".

A new circlejerk starts, and before you know it, this perfect card game is now the butt of a joke once again. Everyone is trashing Valve for buying back all the cards on the market. Gabe Newell announces an AMA on r/artifact and only comments one thing.

    "You shouldn't have doubted me".

The animated cards surge in value. Artifact flourishes. The world gives in and agrees Artifact truly is the best card game ever. All those doubters who sold their cards are now the only only ones still hating on Artifact.

I wake up. FUCK. It was a dream. But it was so real, so detailed, how the fuck did I just dream that? Am I going crazy? I check my phone. It's Thursday, November 28, 2019, "a new tweet from @playartifact banner is on my phone.

    😳
