Posted: 20 Jan 2020 06:26 AM PST I was watching a Sean Murray interview after watching Internet Historians video on No Man's Sky. Having been part of the hype and disappointment myself, it was nice to see how Hello Games bounced back from this. Literally one of the best redemption arcs ever and it makes me happy because Hello Games are good people. Anyways, in the interview Sean says : Someone at Valve who was a fan of the game said to me What you do now is more important than what you say. Hearing that a Valve employee said that gave me a spark of hope. After the release and failure of No Mans Sky, Hello Games went silent for three months and then came back with an update...and then another...and another...and you get the point. Now the game is flourishing and getting better every day. Valve has gone silent for way too long but this gave me hope that Valve will come back with something nice. If Hello Games did it, Valve can do it. Valve has already said everything they had to say about Artifact and what is important now is what they do. I expect that they will surprise us at some point just like Hello Games surprised those who stuck with No Mans Sky for the long haul. (In case you want to see the interview. He makes the comment at 8:55) [link] [comments] | ||

My thoughts on key reason why Artifact failed Posted: 19 Jan 2020 10:20 PM PST As many people already heard all the review and opinions on why Artifact fail. For my opinions, I think there are some key reasons on its failure To make it clear, I don't think the 20 price dollars tag heavily contribute to Artifact failure. Artifact was hyped after TI8, the oppinions of pub changed from" BOO" to "Ya" on the stage. Acceptable 64k peak player -Not huge as Valve expected- but still acceptable considering game is not free In-direct impact: 1)The game that nobody asked for. They asked for HL3 or others and they were let down by Valve. So all the people already started the hate train b4 the game even came out 2)They face very tough competition from overwhelm F2P market. Yet they somehow underestimate biggest ccg game like HS 3)Lacking marketing -as every game Valve bought the right and re created- they think they dont need marketing - silly me. Direct impact: 1) The pay wall up front-and no clear target audience When people joined the game, they quickly noticed there was nothing to earn in game currency others than pay $ money after they ran out of initial investment. Game is not for f2p players which is majority of card game players. But it's also not really meant for Pro/Serious player either since it lacks all the basic "pro" system. Even the basic like rank, replay were not available till later. 3)TCG model online is terrible idea, because digital card can be changed or modified at any time- their value skyrocketing. Also the beta player pre-access to market, making Axe coin appeal as bad impression for new players. Also because they focus on the market, so most of people play game just for market to get profit- not actually investing in the game itself 3) Gameplay- It's not satisfied or good and fun enough. Its feel like mediocre game. I am not going deep about gameplay since many post covered it already etc. I am pointing out the most basic simple of card game like. MTG arena, Hearthstone, or even the new "artifact 2" Legend of Runeterra. I noticed they have very basic principle, making players feel good when they going for Big attack, drop Big minion/Hero, drop Big spell etc. When you are losing, but you draw the BIG hero, big planewalker, big minion that can turn the tide. The Animation/Effect/Sound can please you/people a lot. It is a key factor to please people but they might not noticed that. 4) Finally, Lacking communication and support from Valve. Valve takes too long to respond to die hard player base. They released in-completed game then taking too long to update what should been there in 1st place. So people are getting desperate and unhappy about the game state. P/s: I think Valve taking silent as the way to forget this failure. I know many of you still puting hope for the new Artifact "reborn" but as I observed many failure game b4. Silent and Time will help people forget :) [link] [comments] |
