I just hope that Valve does not invite Alpha Testers again that can play months before everyone else

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 02:59 AM PDT

It affected the competitive scene at launch so much. Almost every top player was an Alpha Tester and I really hope that Valve is not doing the same mistake again. I'd really like to invest in Artifact 2.0 but definitely not when there are gatekeepers that get invited to all Events and Tournaments right at launch because they are months ahead of everyone else.

Valve, calling a game an "open beta" is a free win you cannot overlook

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 01:08 PM PDT

There's a reason why Legends of Runeterra came out as a "open beta".

No. . . The game is fully launched, but calling it an open beta does a world of wonders for your game.

Balance is off? It's okay it's beta!
    Features missing? It's beta dude.
Bugs apparent? That's what the beta is for ya dud.
Not available on all devices? Duh, cause its still in beta.
Progression too slow? That's what the beta will fix!
Hotfixes/awkward update times? Well obviously dude, a beta game has updates!

Name any problem, putting a 'beta' tag on the game makes it no longer a problem, but simply an "ongoing concern which is being looked at during this 'beta' period."

It's what made Dota 2 beta so good to the point it became a meme. "Game's in beta no bitching".

The thing is you dont even have to CHANGE anything about the game itself. Just plop the tag on like they did on Runeterra, and everyone now understands that things are in flux.

Simple name, for a complete state of mind change.

Any theories about what happens to cards and current decks?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 04:24 PM PDT

Title basically. If they make everything free how is that fair to the people who paid for cards?

Importing decks is broken, for some reason.

    Vanguard the Artifact Puzzle Builder

Other long haulers will remember puzzles. I really enjoyed this "hidden" feature of Artifact. I created this web application at the height of puzzles to quickly create and test puzzles. I am highlighting it again so we can create and share puzzles and finish the long haul enjoying what we each enjoy most about Artifact!

    Understanding Valve

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 09:21 AM PDT

There is an interview of Robin Walker about Half-Life: Alyx, and he talks about Valve as a company.

It might be relevant to us:

Question: Looking in from the outside, Valve is quite a mysterious company, especially in terms of its games development. I kind of had the assumption that there would never be another Valve game shipping without a big economy attached to it, like Dota or like CSGO. Was it hard to make a business case for making Half-Life: Alyx? I guess having a piece of hardware you're selling attached to it helps, still was it difficult to make the case for?

Answer: [...] I think one of the maddening things about us in terms of understanding us as a company is often that we're so unwilling to say we're not doing something, that we'll never do something. But that's just us - we just never want to lie to customers. And at the end of the day, we don't know what we're going to do in the future. We were joking and saying we should come out after this and say we're never going to build any multiplayer games, because it would be about as accurate a statement as when people report us as saying we'll never build a single player game again, which is not really exactly what we said. But the truth is, we don't know what we're going to do in the future. We think one of our strengths as a company is our flexibility and our lack of having to answer to anyone outside the company. And we want to be able to employ that strength as much as we can to work on whatever we think is most valuable.
