Defensive items in A2.0 lack utility and usefulness

Defensive items in A2.0 aren't nearly as useful as offensive items and there's scarcely a reason to even buy them.

This is especially true when you look at defensive items compared to their offensive alternatives in the same tier. For instance, consider the 30 gold items:

    • Mortred's Dagger essentially costs 25 gold since it almost always guarantees a kill and it can be recycled to continue killing heroes on deploy - it has too much utility for a 30 gold item since it can be replayed and reliably recoups part of its own cost by playing.

    • Nullifier is REALLY crappy and arguably one of the worst buys in the game - with a cooldown of 3 turns and pretty awful stats (doesn't even provide enough effective HP to offset the offensive items in the same tier), there's zero reason to buy it. It doesn't make sense why this item costs 30 gold and provides zero meaningful defensive stats and its active ability is worse than Omniknight's 1 mana signature card. Worse yet, it's the only mechanic that can replicate Omniknight's signature card which limits the viability of the utility of purging (the active of Nullifier is great, but it's still very situational and the stats on the card are too crappy to justify). The cooldown should definitely be reduced to 2 turns, and some combination of reduced cost and buffed stats would make this item more viable as well.

    • Ghost Scepter is a cool concept, but too situational. Vanguard at 5 gold cheaper is almost always a better option for versatile survivability.

    • Helm of the Dominator is the most situational item in the game - it doesn't even replicate the benefits of Chen's active despite its steep cost.

Generally, defensive cards don't even offset the damage of the offensive cards in the same tier - since defensive cards don't offer the utility of being able to quickly win the game or get an advantage over an opponent playing offensive-oriented cards it's pretty easy to see why virtually all decks in top 100 leaderboards are running Mortred's Dagger or Spear, since those items are leagues better than defensive counterparts.
