Sunsfan gets emotional talking about Artifact

    Yo, I was waiting....

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 06:25 PM PST

And now I'm playing the campaign. I literally was waiting for them to finish the game bc only one of my friends was invited and we didn't care much for the sub art (even though it's funny...). I just couldn't get pumped to play it. But now, I'm half way through the campaign and really liking it. Well done Valve! Can't wait to keep playing it and I HOPE YOU RECONSIDER YOUR INVESTMENT!!!

    Y'all did a great job!

Give us the "nearly finished" expansion for Artifact Classic

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 09:54 AM PST

Remember how they said that a new expansion with new cards was almost ready to be released before they abandoned development for 1.0? They should give us this to refresh the classic experience and enrich it.

Somehow that is totally lost right now:

It's great. I wonder if we can have something like that for 1.0? I would patronize it.

It's good to see people playing Artifact Classic again!

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 09:51 AM PST

If you liked the gameplay of the original Artifact, now it's the best time to play it. Many people will feel nostalgic and reinstall the game (like me). Playing brings back the memories of the good old early days of Artifact when I still felt optimistic about Valve fixing their game...

Do you all think Valve would allow a complete remake of Artifact?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 02:42 PM PST

Similar to how Black Mesa is a community re-creation of the original Half-Life, do you think Valve would approve the same thing with Artifact? The main reason I can think they wouldn't allow it is because if would most likely be a graphical downgrade compared to the original, while Black Mesa was done in the Source engine, and was strictly an upgrade to the original Half-Life. At the same time, Valve came out and said that they won't be updating Artifact, so it's not like an indie version of Artifact would create a negative image of any other Valve projects.

    What do you all think?

    The Artifact I wanted

Why Artifact Beta 2.0 failed? Shameful!

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 03:37 AM PST

Like many things with Artifact, it's fair to say that there was not one single reason why the Beta failed, but many reasons which kept players away from Beta 2.0. These were:

    1. Not amazing gameplay. The gameplay was just acceptable, but why play it over better games like Mythgard, Faeria, LoR, Arena, HS etc...? It's more enjoyable to play, you know, actually excellent and polished games.
    2. Many Artifact lovers who otherwise would have tested the hell out of a Beta instantly saw 2.0 as a huge step in the wrong direction because it was such a dramatic change to 1.0. As a result, even many highly enfranchised players were not happy;
    3. Not polished enough. All those who like polish prefer to wait. Many did not take well to the MS Paint art.
    4. A lot of the people who were invited by email were the same people who had hatred for the game and treated it as a meme, and many were not really into card games in the first place.
    5. Not enough people invited. No friend invites allowed.
    6. No love from Valve. I think it is disgraceful that people like Nine were the ones to host a community tournament, whereas Valve didn't lift a finger to assist or show any interest in building the community.....at all! Despite Valve seeing that numbers were struggling, they should have generated some hype. I don't need a $1 million tournament, but give us a few $500 ones for heaven's sake. It's such a rich company, but it relied on us poor common folks to host tournaments. Shameful.
    7. Poor community management and little engagement with the community despite their initial promise.
    8. Failure to engage a community manager. Imagine if Valve had engaged Sir Action Slacks (a well-known lover of Artifact) to promote the heck out of Artifact Beta 2.0 and be our community manager! Since Valve are so crap at community liaison themselves, they should have had the foresight to think of such ideas as engaging a suitable person for the role. But no, just sit back in silence and watch it fail.
    9. As if all the above were not bad enough, Valve sabotages it by not even releasing it.

    GG WP.

Now that arrow RNG is a topic again

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 02:54 AM PST

Been a long hauler since original Artifact release and did play a little Foundry. In the entire time I've been around I haven't seen this suggested, so I figure what the hell, I'll finally share what I think would have been the ideal solution to arrow RNG:

    1. Every card has an arrow of some direction in a corner as part of its design.
    2. When you need to RNG an arrow, you flip the top card and use the arrow direction on that card, then reshuffle the card back in (since it's digital, shuffling constantly is trivial).

This makes the arrow RNG still a form of RNG but one that is under the influence of the deck builder in the same form as things like Fate values in games like the old star wars one, or like the considerations in japanese ccg's for cards that might end up as shields/health to flip upon taking damage.

Sure you wouldn't be able to control the RNG but you would be able to determine the odds of a given direction in your deck and as cards cycle out you'd even be able to potentially guess what's most likely to come up.

This also provides an additional balancing mechanic if you assume certain arrow directions are more preferable or would encourage more card diversity if you want to skew the RNG heavily in one direction. At the very least I think you'd feel LESS screwed by bad RNG "draws".

Too little too late for this idea, but wth. Hope some day Artifact can come back to life in its new F2P form.
