Honest review by someone who is a casual player (i gave up artifact 1.0 after 3 days) Posted: 18 Aug 2020 07:54 AM PDT Firstly this isn't an attack on how others have received the game so far. Just my personal opinion having not fallen in love with the game the first time round. Pro's: - Love the UI, same as when the game first launched the UI is so much cleaner than compared to other card games. Easy to Navigate and i haven't got to wait ages for each part to load like in hearthstone when you click to start a game mode. - Same again for the old card art, professional and quite impressive how much detail they can get. - Games sounds Cons: - The game still feels boring. This might be because of there being no progression/rewards at the moment. - 3 lanes, too much going on hard to keep up or even plan turns. - Cards are too small in hand, it's a chore to read the cards. During the campaign i gave up reading the cards and just playing stats on board. - Hero Positioning. Again i know there is some control of this now but it does still feel kinda shitty when your opponent makes a play that you didn't anticipate and might be due to blind luck (which at the start is very possible) - Hard to tell where you went wrong aside from obvious misplay. This one might just be a beginner problem but with the 3 lanes and the variety of plays, it seems hard to take a loss when you don't know what the correct play was. I'm not sure how to fix something like the boring feeling but it's just my feeling. I hope this game does turn out to be a success, so hopefully this is helpful. [link] [comments] | ||
Can a more casually inclined '2 lanes mode' insure Artifact's future? Posted: 18 Aug 2020 08:23 PM PDT Following is the suggestion I sent to the Artifact team... "... This mode might just be what 'saves' the game, or makes it much more sustainable." Split the game into 2 modes/games, one more "Casual", and one "Advanced", where you can have side mana and other things you wanted to do and couldn't because of having to compromise. This way the more casual and the expert audiences are both happy, not having a mix that doesn't fit for either group (mostly doesn't fit for casuals). I'll first explain how "Casual" mode will work and then list many advantages it has. It will probably only be available in Hero Draft and other draft modes (replacing current HD), not constructed, as it might be hard/inconvenient to balance/display. It will have 2 lanes, 6 unit slots per lane (so creeps and heroes have more room, doesn't disturb balance), 4 heroes (5 with bench in HD), 28 cards deck (same ratio 4x7), 5 starting hand and still drawing 1.5 cards. Max 6 Tower Enchantments per lane. 4 heroes on 2 lanes means 20% more heroes/color than current. Same win condition rules as now. Flop hero deployment skips mid lane. All cards still work, but their frequency in drafts needs to be tweaked dependent on how weak or strong they become in this mode (some might be removed). The many advantages:
I had this idea for a 2 lanes mode since Artifact 1.0 days, thinking it would be more fun for me personally to play (and then probably more fun for many others too). Of course can't say for sure without testing, but so many things just play and feel so good and right, that I think it almost has to happen, like it's a will that wants to manifest with highest purpose. And casual players are still not comfortable with 3 lanes. This mode might just be what 'saves' the game, or makes it much more sustainable. [link] [comments] |
