| Posted: 12 Jan 2021 02:56 AM PST Thankfully Valve is rich with deep pockets. There is no way that Artifact 2.0 will earn a profit with the currently proposed monetisation model of FTP + pay-for-cosmetics (and perhaps pay-to-enter competitive tournaments in addition). There simply won't be enough players who will come back to the game, even if the game is good. And that doesn't matter because Valve is so rich and does not need the money. I say that there will not be enough players in Artifact 2 because there was such a huge stink in the public marketplace about Artifact 1. The failure of the game is still a huge meme and it's going to be nigh impossible to win the hordes back. Therefore it seems to me that Valve is making Artifact 2.0 for pure love of the game and some personal pride. This is good news for us. Thankfully Valve are so rich that they can take a huge loss with Artifact 2.0 and not bat an eyelid. We are in a rare situation when the dev is giving us an amazing hidden gem for free, which the world spawns. Jesus said "Do not throw your pearls before swine". This is what Valve is doing, throwing pearls to the world which will be trampled upon. Only the small amount of true believers will play and enjoy the game. It will be sort of like Faeria in one way: An amazing game, a hidden gem, an incredibly polished good-value-for-money game, but which still doesn't attract many players despite that. It is a weird and pretty damn awesome position to be in, for all those who enjoyed Artifact 1.0. Valve is basically working for US (yes you and me!), and will serve us an excellent game on a silver platter. FOR FREE!! The Golden Age of Artifact (Nov-Dec 2018) may have passed, but a new Golden Age is dawning. We have a lot to look forward to. [link] [comments]  |
