Introducing a new indie game designed for the high IQ geniuses™, time-sensitive professionals® and hardcore collectors™ of the Artifact community.

    Posted: 31 May 2019 01:36 PM PDT

Hello Artifact community, my name is /u/H_Blackford and like many of you, I am in love with Artifact, I love playing with a small community of intelligent professionals who understand what it's like to spend the fruits of a hard day's work as a trust fund baby on meaningless virtual approximations of meaningless cardboard cutouts. I relish my time taking turns with my fellow intellectuals to endlessly dunk on that one poor kid who still plays the game with our identical netdecked mono blue decks. I love the feeling of ecstasy and achievement I experienced™ when I finally completed my collection on day one by punching in my father's credit card number and adding $300 in steambux. I love Artifact more than my life, and I love the community of high IQ brain geniuses that has formed around it.

However, recent news from valve have me worried. First they fired my hero Richard Garfield (PBUH), then they announce they're revamping the game in a direction that runs counter to Emperor Garfield's vision of an intelligent™ game for high IQ individuals only. I must say, my fellow Artifact dorks that I am very worried that Valve will turn my beloved Brain Testing™ experience into a game for filthy casuals.

Because of my concerns with the current leadership of Artifact, I have decided to take matters into my own hands and create a game that will never stray from the teachings of our God Emperor Garfield. A game that will never waste your valuable time with useless grinding, a game that will be balanced solely around high level macro-statistics and hold no concern over low-IQ game-feel, a game for seasoned collectors, a safe haven for the truly smart, truly professional among us.

The game will be called "Magical Doohickey" and will play very similar to artifact with a few additional features:

    • No card balance, ever. Instead, we will balance the game by releasing new sets every month that are more powerful than the last set, forcing you to buy them. This way collectors will feel a sense of achievement by giving us money.

    • The 25% steam market fee was way too low, and it encouraged reckless trading. To alleviate this, we will have a 40% steam fee, so that collectors can feel safe with their investment.

    • We believe that the $20 price tag was too low on Artifact, and allowed too many low-IQ individuals to play the game and subsequently review-bomb it when they realized it was too high-IQ of an experience for them. To counteract this, we have decided to set the "buy-in" for the game at $100, to ensure that only professional brain geniuses who are serious about the game play it.

    • Wait a minute? you may ask. How can I flaunt the inordinate wealth of my painstakingly acquired collection if there aren't any poor people for me to DUNK™ on? The answer is simple, my dear, refined, Redditor, gentlesir. We will use the extra money to hire an entire cadre of underpaid third-world players, whose only job will be to use matchmaking with subpar decks.

    • We will balance the RNG to feel as if we are taking as much power away from your decisions as we can. That way, low IQ players that care about game feel will be deterred from playing the game.

    • Finally, we feel like artifact has too much grinding by forcing players to play the game to win, that might deter our busy professional players from playing the game. To solve this, we have instituted a new feature where you can pay $5 for a victory screen. That way, you can still enjoy the game if you're too busy to play the game.

I hope all of you are as excited about this new game as we are. I have already begun reading my dad's COBOL for Dummies, which means I will have a beta for select streamers ready for release soon.

Get ready, Magical Doohickey is coming soon.
