Posted: 08 Jun 2019 07:53 AM PDT Looking at this interview from May of last year, they talk about cards coming back changed in future sets, similar to the way MtG does it. There wasn't much to speculate on at the time since we didn't know all the cards or lore, but now we can try and jump to some conclusions. One of the interesting parts is them saying that every card is treated as significant, so it won't just be heroes that have a storyline, and that IceFrog had been adding things to Dota to setup the Artifact story. They say that a character might die, then come back as a zombie. I think they were talking about Rix. We have a vhoul zombie card, the person in front of SF in The Oath is wearing vhoul armor, and his rapid deployment ability implies that he immediately rises from the dead, unlike the other heroes that have to spend a turn escaping the narrow maze (head canon, not written anywhere). They also mention characters gaining/losing powerful items in future sets, but I can't think of any of the current heroes with powerful unique items, except maybe Sven with the Outcast Blade, or Axe's Axe (which he did lose in his new battlepass cosmetic). As far as way out there speculation, I think that planet in Artifact might be destroyed during the War of the Ancients. The new Earthshaker Arcana talks about his old planet being destroyed, but since he's made from the earth, he'll always come back. He could also be saying that the world was destroyed in a less literal sense, and he just retains some memory of what happened before the ancients reset everything, effectively destroying his old world.
