A moment to appreciate the Artifact soundtrack

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 10:20 AM PST

I know that someone in the past made a post about this. But seeing the VNN Artifact 2.0 speculation video and seeing a scene with the board and the music on the background reminded me of how great the soundtrack is. Is epic and atmospheric, fit right in the world of DOTA and a Call to Arms. When Artifact gets release please don't change the music or at least leave the old one. Its crème de la crème!

IF Artifact2.0's rumoured battle-pass monetisation works, it would shake the very foundations of the CG business model as we know it.

(for those ootl: Artifact 2.0 is rumoured to be monetised using only cosmetics rather than the pseudo-TCG model we have now)

Artifact already has the best visuals and sound design in a digital card game. Artifact already has a deep ruleset with a TON of potential for further expansions. Artifact is already mobile ready.

Artifact in its current state also has the least fun/interesting RNG implementation and worst business model (depending on who you ask)

Assuming the redesign fixes these issues and makes the game (even a little bit) popular, the potential trauma that it would inflict on the CG market as a whole would be pretty interesting to see.

Literally every single major card game has been milking it's player base till they have to sell their kidneys for money or employ a bot or slave to grind gold with Pirate Warrior deck.. players have come to accept literally ANY model that's even a tiny bit better than MTG/hearthstone to be "REVOLUTIONARY" and "SUPER FRIENDLY" to consumers.. grinding artificial currency for a month to play a deck you want is NOT consumer friendly. Having to grind even AFTER you spend hundred dollars on an expansion is even more insane..

I know people will still find a way to excuse these practices after being exposed to a pure f2p system like League players routinely defend theirs against dota2.. this is inevitable and I can't help but feel sorry for people who can only enjoy themselves by beating other players who have a smaller collection than they do..

The issue I have with f2p model as can be seen with underlords is that the meta game will be solved relatively quickly and you're going to see everyone playing the same damn decks.. hopefully we have weekly balance patches to keep all the different archetypes competitive and fun..

AFAIK, this would only be the second digital CG after prismata to be fully free. Prismata has nowhere near the amount of resources compared to valve in regards to making a cosmetics based system to make profit.. and sadly prismata is too niche (relatively complex with insane skill ceiling) to find widespread adoption..

And finally don't forget Valve will open up the game for modding. This means you're going to see tons of player made card games!

If Artifact 2.0 would came in a future...

    Do you think Valve:

1- should change the name of it, rebranding the IP. Erasing all the "Artifact" references as game name.

2- Keep "Artifact" name and fight against its "fame" and hate.

3- Launch the new version as Artifact 2.0.
