Hardly any players for over a year.

In Artifact 1.0 you wait forever for a game. 2.0 has no MM, so you have to talk someone into playing with you first. I tried 2.0 MM, but I'm just not really that interested in draft.

I don't really care about the discussion about 1.0 vs. 2.0 anymore. 2.0 is just a new meta for me. It doesn't matter. The fact is that for the last year I have always had to wait a long time to be able to play at all. This is really getting annoying. But when I look at all the discussions, I am probably the only one who feels that way. Most people actually seem to prefer discussing Artifact than playing it. That's okay with me too. But the discussions interest me even less than the draft. :(

I have almost 1500h in Artifat now. 500h of that I have waited. Meanwhile I always watch Southpark on the side.

I'll probably stop playing soon. It's no use.

You should not have to purchase cards in Artifact with real $ just like you don't purchasing heroes in Underlords with real $

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 03:05 AM PDT

Purchasing heroes in Underlords would be like starting the game with a smaller subset of available heroes and alliances at your disposal, in the virtual deck you are drawing your heroes from. And if you are not happy with your subset or feel too limited you then purchase heroes in the Underlords online shop and you add for example 10 instances of Axe, or 5 instance of KOTL to your virtual deck. In exchange for real $$$.

This is bad for the player. And when it's explained like that you realize that this model is bad. And the two games are not that different in term of strategies. There is no real fundamental reason why you should make the player pay for cards in Artifact than paying for heroes in Underlords. The difference is that Artifact is a clone of a game that started in real life, using real money. This is the only reason why Valve is dragging this boulder of making people pay for cards. They are dragging a concept that is 20 years old and which is not adapted anymore for the videogame genre. It worked for MTG because of nostalgia and because you could redeem your cards, but now? It would be like developing a game with a subscription model in mind. Just don't do it. Use another model instead.
