    Artifact's great

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 04:01 AM PST

I know this is another karma farming post etc etc but I just have literally nobody to share these feelings with.

I genuinely think Artifact was a well-made game. And I miss playing it (I still do occasionally but lack of support discourages me). I think that art, music and UI are brilliant, judging purely by aesthetics I think it's my favorite card game. I liked how they approached lore with great care - nice snippets of a bigger story throughout all the cards with great voicework. I loved it.

But one thing I liked the most about the game - and it's probably controversial to most card game players -- I liked that matches lasted long and each and every match was unique and intense, until the very end. Game made you feel like you're doing all you can, while always giving you surprises (with secret shop and arrows). It gave you enough agency to make it feel like an unique adventure, while not overflowing it with random elements (in my opinion, i'm aware about arrow controversy). Every game was a challenge, constantly making you process things and get you involved in every decision. (music contributed to this nicely - I love when https://youtu.be/Qt0TFbvVmPI plays when you're in the very endgame and one mistake can decide everything).

I also think tournament system is absolutely flawless, it's just so easy to use and it's so nice to have. I used to play in lots of draft tournaments and it was great.

In conclusion: I'm a pretty casual player when it comes to card games, but to me artifact appealed in a lot of ways: beautiful design, music and voicework, challenging but not overcomplicated enough gameplay, great UI and tournament support, brilliant draft system. I just think it's a nice game. I don't know if I'll enjoy new artifact as much, hopefully I will, but current iteration of Artifact deserved just a bit more than it has now.

I checked out about a year ago, anything new?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 01:35 PM PST

I played Artifact for 3 weeks on release, LOVED IT. Then it died down, Valve left, streamers left, and I quit but I still LOVE Artifact and you bet your ass I am coming back if this game is resurrected. Last I checked Valve gave an update about sticking for the long haul, has Valve said anything after that?

I think Artifact still has a chance to blow up big and it all depends if and how Valve makes a return. At this point they should release a new set and switch their model and make it so you can pay upfront ($40 even $60) but you get access to the all the cards. They can make money through cosmetics like card styles and such. I really hope they dont come back with the same business model they had on release because that model was a huge reason Artifact failed.

If Valve doesn't release Phoenix as part of the new set I'll be disappointed.
