The new deployment fixes an oddity with previous Artifact design: Artifact's player perspective just became possible as a physical card game.

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 03:22 PM PDT

When you play Artifact, you certainly can't help but notice that you play the lanes from left to right, correct? Left was Lane 1, and Right was Lane 3, this was the flow of the game.

But imagine Artifact is a real game. Real world. Physical, with an opponent sitting across you. IRL.

    What is their lane flow?

Well since they're seeing the game upside down from yours, Left is now obviously Lane 3, and Right is Lane 1, and the game now appears to flow Right to Left.

And yet... That's not what your opponent actually sees on their client. From their perspective. Lane 1 is still Left. And Lane 3 is still Right. This is, of course, because the game is digital, and it can do these cheats.

With the new mechanics introduced in 2.0, both players now currently play all lanes, so Lane flow is no more. However, there is still some binary nature to the lanes: The Lane Flop mechanics state that your left lane is your safelane (flop advantage) and the right lane is your offlane (flop disadvantage).

But that's the beauty of it, because, if you take such a board in 2.0 and... flip it around. From your opponent's perspective, their left late is still safelane, and their right lane is still offlane. Because Offlane, and Safelane, much like the real world, are assymetrical.

Player perspective now works like a real physical board would.

Mockup for how Hero talent trees and levels might work

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 11:20 AM PDT

A suggestion we absolutely need to make artifact streamable.

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 09:16 PM PDT

By the time the game is released please make a twich overlay that allows the viewers to hover over the cards to be able to read what it does.

Hearthstones greatest strength is that the UI is so clean the watcher's can understand whats happening on first glance. MTG is not that simple but you have an overlay so you can read the cards.

One of the main issues was that new players not only couldn't understand what's happening, they couldn't even see whos winning. All the information was on the screen yet they didn't understand it, so that means an UI change is necessary too.

Also let me pet the damn gremlins. Actually i changed my mind, forget the first 2 paragraphs. Just let me pet the damn gremlins.

    Another Moonday giveaway

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 04:36 PM PDT

I was planning on doing this on some giveaway subreddit, but /u/TwistedBOLT inspired me to do it here. While this subreddit is only a fraction of the size it once was, it has gone from the most toxic, whiny place to a really dedicated fanbase with the best memes.

As we approach the end of the long haul, I want to celebrate with my fellow long haulers, so I'm gonna giveaway some Steam keys

    HIVESWAP: Act 1

    Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation

    Dungeon of the Endless

    Empire: Total War Collection

Endless Legend™ - Classic Edition + Tempest DLC

    Endless Space - Collection

    Owlboy

    Tomb Raider

    Broken Age

    Risk of Rain

Post what you want and your favorite Artifact card. I'll pick winners at random.

The game should focus more on your 5 heroes.

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 09:12 AM PDT

Your choice of heroes should be much more significant and flavourful than it is now.

They shouldn't just be 5 huge creeps that can equip items. I believe if the game revolved around the possible synergies and combinations of heroes it would be much more engaging.

Right now the game feels like the colour is much more important than the Hero, unless the Hero is OP: (Example) "I guess a splash of Green would do, I dont care which one it is, so I'll use the least-awful Green hero." instead of

"These 5 exact heroes are the best combination for my playstyle/strategy and it would be very hard for me to replace one."

Just my personal opinion because I love the game and I love the Dota universe.

Heroes gaining experience with creep kills

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 10:05 PM PDT

So, what do you guys think of adding experience element for your heroes?

It would go something like this, I imagine:

Every creep kill would give some experience to the hero(es) in that lane. This could potentially unluck the heroes abilities, or alternatively, for more depth, make it more like talent tree in DOTA, where the player chooses between two skills, to apply the skill which fit the situation.

I think this would add a nice element of gameplay and decision making, while also adding fun and more abilities to the heroes.

    Let me hear your thoughts?

    Viable Nercophos Deck

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 06:18 PM PDT

    Viable UB Necrophos Deck

One hero that doesn't get much love is Necrophos, but now he can in this constructed deck.

Co-starring: Ogre, Luna, Lich and Venomancer, who work together to upkill your opponent.

Ristuals to remove your opponent's armor for chainfrost's and increase the damage dealth from your ignites and conflagarations.

Iron Fog's and One For Me's; To help guarantee items in the early game, as well as a useful tech against Econ decks.

Inspired by the Call To Arms Blue Black Upkeep Deck but now includes Damocles, so now you can kill two towers.

    Possible Additions or Changes;

Switch the Tyler Estate Censor for the Keenfolk Turret; this can be used to trigger Necrophos sadist ability, to prevent Necrophos being eaten by red heroes. As it stands Censor have little use, only useful for delaying TOT ( Delaying Mana 6 annihilation, have little benefit for this deck). Although it's still useful to have, as a way to disrupt early ramp or having an 8 health blocker.

Drop the Lodestone for Forward Charge, as the ristuals can decrease the damage the lodestones can do, although with ramp having more presence recently, having lodestone can be useful to punish TOT.

Drop the Dimensional Portal for AAC, I feel that having Dimensional Portals can be quite greedy and can be difficult to aim your black heroes with hear stoppers into the lanes. Also having more clears is not

I think the deck still needs further optimisation but at the moment the deck I feel the deck is quite fun and intuitive to pilot from the surprising number of synergistic elements with the heroes, a generous econ to buy items for your heroes and a decent draw that you can avoid having a dead hand.

Artifact 2.0 and the right choice between complexity and accessibility

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 03:10 PM PDT

Just read the new blogpost and really like the starting phase and the elimination of the rng placement, arrows and on many heroes as we could guess from the new bounty hunter. Really liking the move to a more strategic game.

I'm concerned however that the game will be too complex to such an extent that new players hardly get attracted. Especially, since it's also aimed to be a mobile game. Two ways to think about:

    1. complexity: Decision making starts in the laning phase and probably even before that with a specific hero selection since I guess heroes will be much more important than in the original game. Next the back and forth on all lanes simultaneously which adds much more depths to each round imo. The active and passive abilities seem to be much more thought out and more than just the draw cards or deal some damage or stun every now and then as in the current version and I've seen user-created and appreciated talent tree mockups such as in dota 2 with even more decision making

    2. accessibility: I always keep the mobile version in mind since that's what I was looking for since the first release. Now that all three lanes will be played simultaneously I am worried that everything will be so small and not mobile-like even on iPad Pro sized tablets. I know it's just a mockup and not announced by Valve but the talent tree would be so bad to select or readable on mobile devices I think.

These are just my big concerns... that even though most of us long haulers simply love this new way artifact is going that there's not that much potential of a big playerbase out there. To be clear I personally love the way artifact is going and I really hope for an awesome mobile version. The one from underlords isn't very well made and feels weird to play on. For the simple drag and drop and click of units it's enough but not for a click and drag intensive game like artifact.

Lowkey detail of the Deployment post - Lane slots are indirectly confirmed to be expandable.

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 06:41 PM PDT

    Timberchain 3 round; 1 mana

Move Timbersaw up to 5 slots away. Deal 1 damage to each enemy passed on the way.

Timberchain would not list the ability to move up to 5 slots away if you could not have more than 5 slots in a lane. In a five slot lane, moving from leftmost to rightmost slot would only be moving Timbersaw 4 slots.

From a flavour perspective, what are your favourite cards?

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 09:57 AM PDT

I was wondering which heroes and non-hero cards people like because of their flavour.

My favourite hero, flavourwise, is Ogre Magi. His voice lines are still funny, "so, do we hit people with it?" or "it's not a rock, but it'll do" when you equip an Apotheosis Blade on them are great. I also like the concept of a stupid two headed dude fighting and arguing with himself.

As for non-hero cards, I think the flavour of Ogre Corpse Tosser is great. A giant dude that throws the bodies of his fallen buddies at the enemy tower? What's not to love about that?!
