    We're All Long Haulers

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 08:56 AM PDT

We have a million different opinions but we're all here on this subreddit following the story of valve's dota 2 card game.

If you loved artifact and just want another set, you're a long hauler.

If you hated artifact but believe valve can turn things around with a reboot, you're a long hauler.

If you're still promoting the game with tournaments out of your own pocket, you're a long hauler

If you just want see what's next for one of the gaming industry's biggest trainwrecks, you're a long hauler.

If you appreciate both the good and bad aspects of artifact and are willing to give the dev's another shot, you're a long hauler.

If you never even played artifact but you like the memes, you're a long hauler.

If you quit your job and took out some questionable loans so you could be the next big streamer, you're a long hauler.

If you're still waiting for the third issue of the comic, you're a long hauler.

If you're reading this, you're a long hauler.

Interesting info about armor and stat nerfs

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:33 PM PDT

A couple of weeks ago, the devs said that cards would be having their stats reduced by ~40%. This made a bunch of people question how useful heroes would be in the new version, because they were basically creeps with better stats in 1.0, and now they'd be even closer stats wise. In today's post, the devs said that they had doubled the stats of units in 1.0 because even a single point of armor could potentially block a ton of damage (9, according to one of our resident long haulers). So this reduction in stats brings the units back in line with what the orginal vision of the game was. Hopefully the across the board stat nerfs will keep some cards from outclassing others by too high of a margin.

Just thought I'd throw that out there for anyone who was still concerned about the 40% stat reduction. The devs reworked armor to make it so the heroes no longer need to compensate for how much value you gained from even a single point of armor, so even though their stats are smaller, the heroes should be as impactful as they were before.

    Artifact 2.0 complexity

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 04:28 PM PDT

After thinking a bit about it (especially with today's news) I came to a realization that 2.0's mid-game will have more complexity than 1.0's.

1.0 went like this: you start a round knowing the board state, initiative holder and possible board changes for the next 3 sub-board states. You saw blinks (or could be ready for a new blink), you saw heroes that might move from left to right and you could anticipate changes in initiative possession due to the heroes' colors. All of this was multiplied by the possible placements on the lanes (which were usually 6-10 unless a wide board was happening).

2.0 will probably be smth like this: you start a round knowing the boardstate of 15 lane placements, you know the initiative holder and you know where current heroes are. But now there's an equation of 15 lane placements x 1-5 heroes, which ranges from 15 to 75 possible boardstates depending on the amount of mana and possible movement cards/items. So we're going from predicting possible 6-10 boardstates to expectations (cause you ain't predicting that many) of up to 75 boardstate. I'd say that's quite fucking complex.

What do yall think? Leave a comment, ding that bell and subscribe ;p

We haven't gotten our Moonday News yet because it's 4/20, and the devs are waiting until 4:20 PST to post it.

This is my card for today. Just assume that modifying a hero with negative health can't reduce his maximum health below 1. You guys gave a lot of feedback yesterday. I have made some cards in advance, but I try to listen to your feedback when I make more heroes.

SUGGESTION: "Action Pool" for Abilities and Items (and cards)

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:12 PM PDT

Before the "Mechanics!" post I thought there could be one Mana Pool, but it would refresh two times (so 3 total mana pools in a round still). Right now I don't like that there is only one overall, and Abilites and Items all use Mana as well, disturbing even more the limited Mana resource.

What if everything would cost 1 Action to do (by default, no need to specify)(maybe even passing), but some stronger Abilities and Items (even cards) would cost 2 or 3 Actions. And there would be an Action Pool, symmetrical to Mana Pool (visually too), as well starting at 3 and increasing by 1 every round. Abilities and Items would no longer use Mana resource (or much less frequently than now).

This would still limit actions you can do in a round, but in a more rounded and deliberate way. This would as well be another good balancing dimension.

Traditional games have 1 lane, we have 3 lanes with limited color options. To further limit play options like this is kind of lame.

A new CM skill (or mb card?)

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 05:39 PM PDT

Either no one has noticed or my alt+f somehow missed this in the news post. CM now has a mana refresh. Or at least I doubt they'd call her aura a refresh, so I'm assuming she now has a new skill or card. https://imgur.com/17ne4PT

Enough with the 2.0 vs 1.0 threads. It's old.

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 11:57 AM PDT

I get it, you're all sick of eachother. But if we wanted a bunch of dysfunctional bellyaching, pretty sure we'd all RSVP our next family reunions.
More fluff, less trying to put 'the other side' on blast. It's easy upvotes, but let's be real, it's just stirring the pot. If 2.0 sucks when you play the beta, then by all means, let everyone know your thoughts. If it kicks ass, likewise.

I'd be way more interested to see people's thoughts on custom game options they'd like to see, or card ideas they have, UI ideas and things like that. That's constructive, that's cool, maybe encourages some creativity and inspires some community feelings.

    Peace.
