    What Artifact Needs Is Workshop

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 03:55 PM PDT

One feature that I think would please everyone is workshop. Long haulers can recreate artifact 1.0 if they want to and everyone can make there own cool card games or different game modes. It would also help with talking about different design and balance decisions as people could make there own mod to test them out.

Do you agree or have some other feature you think the game needs?

Artifact would be great fun to play in VR

Obviously not a huge need, but probably wouldn't be too difficult and a ton of potential down the line!

Also a battle city tournament recreation please

Strawpoll: Should Valve call the new version Artifact 2?

    All-Hero Challenge Day 5: Broodmother

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 11:12 AM PDT

I designed 36 new Heroes inspired by MtG's War of the Spark Expansion. Here are the Black Heroes

As happy as we all are that Artifact is coming back better than ever, it's important to remember that the rest of the planet is mostly disenchanted by the idea of card games, AND generally hated Artifact 1.0

    Posted: 22 Apr 2020 11:04 PM PDT

given Valve's lack of marketing, they and this community have a hell of hard climb ahead of us in making Artifact sound NOT like another cash grab, especially after is graceful entry to glorious burnout maneuver.

FFS people don't even believe me when I tell them DotA2 is not simply f2p, but a FREE game. They think I'm insane and assume it to be just another LoL clone.

Artifact is still considered by many to be a cheap hearthstone knock-off with 3 lane gimmick that failed like all the others.

    This is just the misinformed..

Then you have the rabid baseless haters who'll simply give negative reviews and trashtalk this game cos TF2/L4D2/Portal didn't get it's 7000th update and HL3 hasn't happened yet.. then you have the fools who try the game for 5mins and write a negative review cos it's not "enter-their-favorite-card-game"

I can guarantee you most people aren't aware that Artifact 2.0 is happening at all.

Finally, the prospect that scares me the most: there's no guarantee that 2.0 will be a fun game 😰

Maybe I'm paranoid, but the fact remains that Valve has got a near impossible task ahead of them in reviving Artifact.

Dumb old thought: Will items be disabled by Disarm instead of Silence now?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 04:00 AM PDT

Silence doing that never made sense. Not thematically, nor from a mechanical standpoint (why is it so strong?)

Just reached Draft rating 75 :) Random thoughts inside.

Not that it matters much, what with Artifact 2 around the corner. But I've started playing draft again after a break of over a year, was quite surprised to find queue times not that long. A lot of my opponents seemed to have very high profile level (100-250) but I've matched with quite a few sub-20 profiles as well.

It felt like getting to rating 75 is much easier now, there must've been a lot of rating inflation over the last 1 year. I remember getting stuck at 72 and not progressing even after like 50 wins.

Draft is fun, but I don't like that its balanced a lot by card rarity. Rare cards like Axe, ToT and Emissary give you a huge edge just because you lucked out in your packs. And not rare, but TP scrolls and Blink Dagger are OP.

Also I found that I'm still enjoying the game. Does that disqualify me from giving feedback for Artifact 2?

    The ranking system

    Posted: 22 Apr 2020 11:37 PM PDT

They said the ranking system would be similar to that of Underlords with tiers, but do we know if there will be an exakt ranking like a dota2 MMR system?

It might just be me but i really like the dota2 mmr because it feels very nice to see your exact rating (but they might have that it underlords as well im not sure?)

Anyway what are your thoughts on the rating system? Do you like it or do you want dota2 mmr style?

How does 2.0 compare to other card games so far?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 05:09 AM PDT

I am a total noob when it comes to card games, mostly due to the awful monetization that is across basically all of them (pay to play). Sadly Artifact was worse in this department, and was the sole reason I didn't play it as everything else about the game was incredibly intriguing (and I watched a lot of it and read a lot on it when it was still being played by quite a bit of people).

But with 2.0 coming and the new monetization being far better, I am extremely excited to actually play a card game that doesn't try to nickel and dime you.

But something I've noticed with this latest blog post is there are a lot of things in 2.0 that seem to mirror a lot of other card games out there, and I'm worried that Artifact might lose its identity. Now I'm not trying to say 1.0 is definitely better than 2.0, as I like basically everything about 2.0 so far (besides only 5 spots per lane, but I'm sure it won't be as big of a deal as we imagine), but I don't have a frame of reference to compare other card games to unlike some people here.

So to those people here who have played other card games, are the 2.0 changes making Artifact seem more like all the other card games out there? Is this just par for the course because the other card games have "proven" mechanics that just can't be intervened? Or is there still quite a bit of uniqueness left in Artifact compared to its competition?

Old streamer clip arguing with landlord

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 01:23 AM PDT

Hello, I've been looking for a while for an old clip taken from a streamer who forgot to mute his mic and was arguing with his landlord about paying his rent, and if I recall correctly he said to him that "he was going to win the $1m Artifact tournament", or something like that.

Sadly I don't remember who he was and I was unlucky on my previous searches, anyone else remembers this?

    Patch day tomorrow!

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 04:39 AM PDT

Tomorrow is the day of the week when Valve would always patch Artifact. Long may that ritual continue. We are the men who wait.
