    New card type concept.

    Posted: 13 May 2020 09:22 PM PDT

    New card type concept.

    I'm not sure what they plan to do, but based off the current game, I designed these heroes... sort of. I don't have Photoshop currently, so I used a... similar card program to design these real quick. I think as concepts it gets the job done.

    OH! Let me explain the top of the cards titles. There are 7 of them, and I designed them based of Dota's attributes; agility, strength, and intelligence. Although I made 3 extra, as combinations of the 2 sort of... Valor is Agi+Str, Vigor is Str+Int, and Agi+Int is Assassin. Now that's only 6 types, and as you may have guessed, the 7th one is all of them combined. I would suggest building decks around these types of fields, but let me know what you think.

    These are the costume cards I made for fun.

    Axe

    Beastmaster

    Drow Ranger

    Kanna

    Lion

    Meepo

    Ogre Magi

    Would you advise Valve to release the beta with "Placeholder card art"?

    Posted: 13 May 2020 03:16 PM PDT

    Not for your personal desires. For what you truly think is best for the games success.

    I am assuming an limited non-NDA beta
    Also take note I am giving an option for releasing before Card Art is finished but only after the board and shop models are done. (Think artifact 1 with msPaint card art)

    Redone idea on Void Spirit for Artifact 2.0

    Posted: 13 May 2020 06:39 PM PDT

    Would people be ok if they went with the underlords route of monetization?

    Posted: 13 May 2020 01:20 PM PDT

    You pay 5 dollars per battle pass season and you get cosmetics to unlock through bp progression for things like card art, special effects, imp items, board setting, and board props.

    I for one would be totally fine if they go this route.

    Unofficial Lore for the new Heroes

    Posted: 13 May 2020 04:23 PM PDT

    Lore being the main selling point for me to buy the game coming from Dota 2, i got excited to see the newly announced heroes and how they would fit into the Artifact story, here are my theories to why the new heroes are here:

    NYX ASSASSIN - Direct orders from the Hidden Hive, Goddess Nyx has sought out a beneficial location for expansion of her colony, the downside the location is guarded by the Drow Ranger who has scoured several invading scarab parties in attempts to lay ground work on hive construction. Goddess Nyx has sent in the Nyx Assassin to secure the protection of the colonisation, The Assassin stalking his prey for weeks over the elusive Ranger stumbles across her plans to consume the powers of Avernus, source of power to Nyx Assassin's deepest rival - Abaddon. The Assassin must choose a strategic option of 'Killing two birds with one stone' while both are preoccupied in the battle or chose the path of 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend', but which temporary friend is best to ally with?

    MIRANA - Always having a bitter disdain towards Luna, the chosen of Selemene, where as Mirana gave up royalty to be in service of Selemene, Luna only stumbling upon the goddess by pure luck, failing her army, getting lost and being able to chase a cat through the woods, Mirana severely questions Selemene's chosen favour. Luna thinks to best Sorla Kahn as a sign of killing the life she used to live before Selemene, If Sorla can best Luna, perhaps Selemene will focus on the moon's true favourite child, the rightful and most devoted child - Mirana.

    (I also had a theory of Mirana and the Quorum, based on the Stars Allign card, but it just kept getting deeper and deeper, maybe i'll come back to it)

    WRAITH KING - A new Merchant King? The Last King of Slom? Sounds to the Wraith King that there are open auditions and awaiting subjects looking for a fitting ruler. The Wraith King fresh from retiring the Throne of bones, sees Revtel as a fitting new starting ground for a bigger wraith army.

    ARC WARDEN - Prellex and Kanna think they know what the ancients want, they think they can speak for them, insulting to the Warden he plans to be the spokesperson for this upcoming war of wars. Prellex and Kanna have done most of the work, raising the armies and gaining followers, but now is the perfect time for Warden to step in and control the chess pieces for himself playing both sides, at the same time for the best and perfect outcome.

    I'm not the hardest lore nerd, but i have a good understanding from both the games and all the heroes, i personally try and create theories to glue everything together to make sense; let me know if you have your own theories or criticisms of mine are also welcome. Personally, Arc Warden was the hardest to pin down his purpose without going too far down the rabbit hole.

    Shop Tweaking

    Shop Tweaking

    Hey Long Haulers,

    I like the updated Shop mechanics introduced in the latest blogpost but I still think there is room for improvement.

    I already e-mailed them my idea but wanted to discuss it here if you want.

    My idea follows the design goals set by the Devs and makes the Shop a mechanic that serves its purpose but is not its own game.

    It retains the Tier and Upgrade system and all other mechanics in the latest blogpost but with the following differences:

    • The Shop is now divided into just 2 Slots: Item Deck and Extra Items;
    • In the "Item Deck" slot players get to see their own items. Players can build their item deck with any items they wish. Just like in your latest blogpost, if they don't have or run out of an item of that Tier or below they get a random Tier 1 items in that slot;
    • The "Extra Items" slot is populated with 2 random items of each Tier (when it runs out you get a Tier 1 item);
    • When you Upgrade the Shop, items on both Slots are rerolled (not sure if that's how it works already);
    • The "Earn + Gold" option is removed;

    What do we gain from this version:

    • You always have access to one (and only one) of your own items;
    • You don't have rounds where you only see random items;
    • Planning your strategy around items is more consistent and rewarding;
    • The Shop is used solely to purchase items, as the name implies. The game shouldn't confuse players with 2 different ideas;
    • Gaining Gold in the battlefield becomes more important and you have to strategize accordingly and not rely on some mathematical formula to reach your goals;
    • You don't have to choose between purchasing an item you need and want vs earning gold for the future because it's the more gold efficient approach;
    • The Shop is less overwhelming and more accessible to new players;

    Thanks for reading. Let me know what you think.
