Artifact 2.0 Beta Short Review - 49 hours in. Posted: 20 Jun 2020 04:53 PM PDT It's shit.
I'm not going to defend it being a beta, I'm not going to hold back anything since its Valve. It feels horrible to play, and this is someone who had to endure a lot of the bad shit of 1.0. I gave this game enough chances to prove myself wrong, and when a lost is a painful stab in the heart and a win feels unrewarding, you know something is very wrong, and I like to believe I'm not alone here.
Despite the reduction of RNG, the game feels even less about decisions and just letting shit happen. The fun parts of 1.0 was having a different plan for each lane, and when you weren't being hit hard by hero positioning and arrow direction you could work around a series of decisions that would make or break the game.
In Artifact 2.0, no lane feels special anymore. Everything feels toned down and "hand-holding", as in any big decisions are held back from your lack of mana, or the forced rules of card usage and unit deployment. Whilst they are working on card drawing rules, I feel like rebalancing the numbers just can't fix a system that requires heavy reworking.
It feels like Valve tried to fix the issues of the first game, but instead of repairing a flawed system, they decided to make a new system, resulting into even more problems which makes it far less enjoyable than the first game. I understand Valve is asking the community now, but we could've communicated much earlier and it feels that the damage can't be undone.
Now I had no intention of posting a negative review since I was curious to see what changes Valve had in mind throughout the weeks, but when part of the last patch was spent adding in MORE CARDS, I just had about enough of this shit, with that being one of the worst decisions to focus on right now, instead of figuring out what features were fun to witness in the first game.
I have accepted the fact that I'm going to be mass downvoted by saying "game bad", but I will not lie and say this is currently in a good state. Valve went in one year of silence to plan this out, and if they can't capture the feeling of a minor achievement, I feel like it's going to head into another failed direction. I pity the people wanting beta access, as I feel some will go through the path of acceptance I've been through.
I will finish up by saying I won't be permanently giving up on this game. But I'm not going to return to the beta unless Valve steps up with their changes. [link] [comments]

2.0 Review: the same essence, a lit bit different Posted: 20 Jun 2020 09:30 PM PDT I was a real fan of 1.0, I liked the complexity, all the thinking you had to do and the fact that every play could change the match outcome, but the player who was dominating the board tended to win. I didn't care about RNG and I missed the social part of the game (a ladder, a ranking, rewards for playing, etc), but at the end of the day I understood it was not a game for the masses because it was very complex. When I like something I don't like it to change and I was very afraid that 2.0 would be a piece of shit compared to 1.0. But I was wrong. There are some differences, part for good, part not to my like, but the game identity is still the same. RNG: A loooot less of RNG. Only some hero abilities are random ("deal x damage to y RANDOM enemies"). I think rng have a role in a game: create diversity. Without RNG every round two creeps appear always facing each other and killing them mutually. Kind of boring, but since it was such a drama the amount of RNG I think it is a fair sacrifice. CREEPS: As said, now creeps always spawn facing each other. They are weak, so even if you manage to save yours, they don't make much difference. If you buff them, they begin to annoy your opponent, but they seem a little too irrelevant for me. HERO PLACEMENT: I think that's a good change. Heroes who have habilities that depent on hitting the enemy hero (Ursa, Phantom Assassin, etc) are much nicer to play now, such as heroes that you want to hit the tower (Sorla) or just stay alive (most of the blue and green ones). It all depends on how much priority you give to them. 3 LANES: At first I didn't like. It seems you are never aware enough of each lane details. After a while you get used to it and manage to keep track of everything happening in each lane. SLOTS: I imagine they limited the number of units per lane thinking about mobile / tablet usability. Per se is not a good change, it limits the possibilities of the game. Sometimes is easy to clog a lane and the game can become still. Not a big problem, though. ITEMS: Items feel less powerful, since you are not following each lane closely. The new shop it's a good improvement, though. DRAFT: I used to like drafting every card of my deck, but the new draft is ok too, much more agile CONCLUSION: I don't care or mildly dislike most of the changes, exception for the hero placement that seems a good one. I think the game keeps the same core - that immense number of possibilities, that feeling that everything can turn around in any play - and that's very good. I just hope they develop the social part of the game, I wish I didn't care for those things, but they do make a difference. [link] [comments]

Now I doubt if I signed up the beta or not based on my superior dodge skill Posted: 20 Jun 2020 01:26 AM PDT Truly, I have literally checked twice on the sign up website to make sure I, with the correct accountId, have signed up. [link] [comments]

Lina is the only reason I play mono blue Posted: 20 Jun 2020 12:18 PM PDT She easily deals 7 damage per turn in the lategame. That's not crazy by itself, but it's done before combat and after you cast a spell. So you can nuke down a blocker and then hit the tower for 7 before the enemy can play another one, or you can use a 2-mana spell to kill a 9-hp hero. Add that to the much higher mobility in Artifact 2.0 from guaranteed TP scrolls and other active items and she's the only threat in the game that the enemy can't really interact with besides killing her. Other blue heroes are situational. Pierpoint only helps if you survive to win through sneaky tactics, Zeus only helps if you manage to hurt the heroes first, Crystal Maiden needs a strong team to protect her and cards that are cheap enough to play 2 per turn. But Lina is just a powerhouse. [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Jun 2020 12:04 PM PDT This bug has plagued me since Artifact 1.0 but I've never been able to find a fix. Most of my icons (Heart, Sword, Armor, CD, etc) are boxes. I've tried verifying files, reinstalling, and submitting bug report in-game. As you can see on the cards, the symbol on the art is fine. Everything else, boxes. Mostly posting for visibility but if there is a fix please let me know, it's so hard to play when you can't tell what a card does. [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Jun 2020 12:08 PM PDT Title. I was lucky enough to get in during wave 4. My friend is still waiting for his. Since the game was bought from my account, would a beta key still go his way? [link] [comments]
