    Erotic Card art for heroes

Valve should make game free to play and offer additional erotic card art. They would make a lot money with this and artifacts future would be secured.

Auto draw bug in tournaments - settings & rules to avoid them (that still allows normal draws)

    Posted: 09 Mar 2019 02:49 PM PST

UPDATE: This will need to be tested again if it is mechanically possible within the Artifact tournament system. From a previous discussion, someone tested it and supposedly it was possible. But, it seems it might not be, as he might have used a setting that said "allow draws". If someone can test the theory before I have some time to at some point, that would be awesome. =D! I am trying to gather up four people, so I can check.

This is a solution to avoid the Artifact auto draw bug, until it is fixed by Valve.

It is different from simply not allowing draws, since that requires an unknown number of games to be played. This solution has players play a max of 1/3/5 games depending if it is BO1/BO3/BO5.

Please read if you are a tournament organizer, a competitive player or just interested. (My entire article is posted here in this reddit post for convenient reading.)

    • Great if you could share this info.
    • Please give feedback if there are mistakes, room for improvements or if you have an alternative fix.
    • I also want to hear about other bugs, so we can find solutions or draw attention to them for Valve solutions.

If you choose to use BO2 swiss or not to use this solution, please use the 2-1-0 (win-tie-loss) point system to reduce the impact of auto draw bugs that might occur in your tournament.

    Auto draw bug background info

    • Artifact has an auto draw bug in its tournament system.
    • The system registers a game draw, even though the game never even loaded and was not played.
    • There is nothing an admin can do to change the results or allow an actual game to be played.
    • Cause of the bug is unknown. One theory is that it happens when one or both players are disconnected from Artifact while the game is trying to load. (Please send me details at email@dpmlicious.com if this happens to you, so we can figure out the reason.)
    • This bug can affect people even if they have excellent internet and/or PC.

This solution works for BO1/BO3/BO5 tournaments only because BO2 disallowing draws does not exist. Thus, hosting BO2 swiss is currently unrecommended.

    Settings:

    • Swiss - Select options that do not allow draws - However, write in the official tournament rules are that it is a BO1/BO3/BO5 where up to 1/3/5 games are played, but no more than 1/3/5 games will be played. The series result will be determined by the outcome of the games played.
    • Single Elimination - By default all options do not allow draws - apply the same official tournament rules as mentioned for Swiss.

    How to manually award wins/draws

(Any results that don't have any draws will be processed automatically by the tournament system. Results will need to be awarded manually, since the system technically won't recognize the draws. Players would need to type whether draws are auto bugs or actual results.)

    A. BO1

    1. Draw -> admin awards a series draw

    B. BO3

    1. Player A wins + player B wins + draw -> admin awards a series draw
    2. Player A/B wins + 2 draws -> admin awards a series win to winner of the one game
    3. 3 draws -> admin awards a series draw

    C. BO5

    1. Player A wins 2 games + player B wins 2 games + 1 draw -> admin awards a series draw
    2. Player A wins 1 game + player B wins 1 game + 3 draws -> admin awards a series draw
    3. Player A/B wins 2 games + the other player wins 1 game + 2 draws -> admin awards a series win to the player who won TWO games
    4. Player A/B wins 1 game + 4 draws -> Admin awards a series win to the winner of the one game

Clauses to include in your official tournament rules

Reporting draws 1. After an auto draw bug occurs, both players must write "Auto draw bug vs (insert player name)" in (insert place you want them to write this information) within (insert number of minutes) minutes after the game ends. 2. After a regular draw occurs, both players must write "Normal draw vs (insert player name)" in (insert place you want them to write this information) within (insert number of minutes) minutes after the game ends. 3. Players who do not report draws will be eliminated from the tournament. If one player fails to report within the given time, the series win will be awarded to the other player. If both fail to report, a series draw will be awarded. 4. Player who report draws incorrectly will also be removed from the tournament.

    Notes on suggested tournament clauses

    1) Place to post draw reports - I recommend the Steam tournament chat

    • Make a separate channel for general chat. Use the main channel, where the tournament results are automatically announced, so that admins can easily verify that there was indeed an autodraw or normal draw.
    • Players who are in China will be able to access the Steam tournament chat without breaking any laws regarding VPN to try to use discord.

    2) Recommended time limit: 3 - 5 min.

    • Although immediately within 1 min is ideal, since it would be soon after the steam chat record, some people might have some lag or game crashes beyond their control.
    • Anything longer can seriously hold up the tournament if it is BO3 or more with multiple rounds.
    • Having an infinite amount of time to report the draw type will lead to a potentially long wait, which extends the total tournament time, affecting everyone.

    3) It is important for both players to confirm what type of draw it was - auto or normal. Need both players to report to avoid any disputes or admin mistakes of manually setting wins/draws.

Once again, if you choose to run a BO2 swiss tournament or not to use this system, please do consider using 2 points instead of 3 for wins because:

    1. It reduces the impact of the auto draw bug.
    2. It is a fairer award system and more accurate system that rewards better players.

In a 3-1-0 tournament with 7 swiss rounds that cuts to top 8, one would need

    1. 18 points for a guaranteed spot
    2. 15 points or more for a chance to qualify

In a 2-1-0 tournament with 7 swiss rounds that cuts to top 8, one would need

    1. 12 points for a guaranteed spot
    2. 10 points or more for a chance to qualify

In a tournament today, I experienced the auto draw bug in Round 1 and Round 2, which resulted in a series draw for both.

    • In this 3-1-0 tournament, it would be impossible to qualify if I lost a single game. Once I lose a game, the max points I could win would be 2 + 12 = 14, while the min of 15 is required.
    • If the tournament used 2-1-0, after I had the two series draw (due to the auto draw bug) and one loss, the max points I could win would be 2 + 8 = 10, which theoretically gives me a shot, depending on tie breakers. (Although, I haven't done the detailed math on the likelihood of having good enough tie breakers in this case.)

This auto bug draw solution was formed during a discussion with arTIfAN and catoftheyear. Thanks!

I'll post about another bug tomorrow. I'm uncertain if it has been fixed.

I've been busy with real life matters ever since the launch, but you'll be hearing and seeing more from me starting mid/late this month (hopefully). If I haven't gotten back to you yet, I will soon or feel free to shoot me another message.

I'll also post some other suggestions and topics for discussion some time this month. I'm also in this for the long haul. ʕ•ᴥ•ʔノ♡

Brian Kibler - Aged Like Fine Wine

    Posted: 09 Mar 2019 05:58 PM PST

Brian Kibler's interview before the game launched has aged like fine wine (serious now, not being sarcastic).

https://youtu.be/UO1PH5hsikg (scroll to 7:25 - the rest is mostly off-topic)

He basically said that Artifact will not likely have a wide audience, but will appeal to highly competitive players - in short it's niche.

I wonder if Valve was concerned about this before the launch, saying amongst themselves "OMG is it possible that Brian is right on that? That there will be a mass exodus due to the game being so niche? Should we really go ahead with the launch as planned? Is it really a good idea to blow up all those balloons and get out the champaigne on the launch night, instead of addressing Brian's feedback?"

THE LONG (over)HAUL (suggestions to Valve)

    Posted: 09 Mar 2019 09:10 AM PST

all good not-all-obvious ideas collected in one thread

more FUN, more AGENCY, more AFFORDABILITY

    ACTION WHEEL

Giving players more agency, making game more dynamic and fun. (You now draw 1 card every round and can instead choose to make one of three actions.)

    Read more about it here.

    MULLIGAN

Enabling more playable starting hand. If you choose to use mulligan, you can do it once and have to mulligan at least 3 cards. This is done to help bad starting hands and not reward good starting hands. No cards are blacklisted.

    NEW STARTING LANE (every round)

This is something that would be really fun to test out and will potentially bring more fun and variety to the game. Every round starts on a new lane and progresses in the same direction until all 3 lanes are passed. A round can't start on same lane twice in a row. A random other lane is chosen before deployment phase. There will be an intuitive separator showing the start and end of a round on the minimap.

    ITEM DECK CHANGE BUTTON

Item deck needs to become just slightly more consistent, and a nice way to do it is to allow to change the current card (blacklisting only this card) for one other, once a round. Change button will sit above the item deck just like the Hold button, with starting cost of 1 gold, increasing by 1 every time you use it.

PvP DRAFT (the future of competitive draft)

Drafting against your opponent before the game. Greatly reduces the variance of draft, less games required to determine true winner. Heroes are picked from a pool, are not in packs, can't be changed after draft. Hero phase (2n2) > Main card phase > Hero phase (3n3) > Finalizing phase. Read more about it here.

ALL PRICES HALVED (steam bucks refunded)

Everyone refunded half of all Artifact items acquired (current collection), all items are kept by players. Packs, tickets and entry price halved to $1, $0.5 and $10. Steam market now uses one more decimal place (which it should anyway). This change is important, not only for current players, players that can't afford the entry price/constructed format/tickets, but for future players as well, that will be faced with a high paywall getting into constructed after many expansions.

    +1 BOUNTY AFTER HERO KILL

Hero deaths are in general very punishing. To mitigate this in a balanced and interesting way is to modify a hero in lane with +1 bounty after an enemy hero in same lane is killed, prioritizing heroes of color the cards (or items) are played from. An animation will show which hero has gotten the bounty increase. This is a nice potential comeback mechanic and makes decisions and outcomes later in the game more interesting. This is as well similar to how gold bounty increases work in DotA.

    2v2 MODE

A special mode to play with your friend or another player against 2 other players. Read about how it can work here. An example of how Artifact can have more fun modes.

These were more of the not-so-obvious-but-good suggestions for the game, there are of course many other things to be addressed and added which many other threads mention and Valve are aware of.

    I Return to Play

I don't want to play artifact anymore!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't want to play artifact anymore!!!!!!!!!!!

Guys I have enjoyed artifact and still enjoy it to this day but today the unthinkable happened. I know rng is rng in a card game and I know that losing hurts but non of that really bothers me. my problem was today after winning my match I reached level 69. this hurts me a lot as I love to play more but I also like 69. to put it bluntly 69 is one of my favorites. my dream is to be able to just stay in 69 position when I play 1v1 with the artifact community. Now I know some of you might say that 69 is overrated but I do enjoy it and I want to 69 forever.

Is the problem with Artifact that it's not fun to play or that it's not fun to watch?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2019 01:35 PM PST

I personally think it's a lot of fun to play, so I wonder if it's the streaming aspect that's actually hurting the game.

Artifact needs to ditch its 3 lane system

    Posted: 09 Mar 2019 03:43 PM PST

As unique as it is, I see a lot of problems (long games, too complicated to know if you misplayed, harder learning curve without much payoff, etc.) coming from this aspect alone.

There's plenty of other issues, but when I think of what turns people off, I immediately think of the 3 lanes.
