Another idea for changing how arrows work: no overkill Posted: 31 Mar 2019 03:31 PM PDT Arrow rng is something that gets talked about a lot on this sub, with views ranging from "not an issue" to "literally killed the game". While I am broadly in favour of the current system, i think that there is room for improvement, and there are some cased where the system breaks down. Recently I had a lane with two red heroes, and a creep inbetween them. The opposition had a single creep spawn in the centre, and BOTH of my heroes curved to attack it. This single creep blocked 20+ damage to tower without the opposition even doing anything. A few proposals have been made about changes that can be made, but most of them are complicated, which is the opposite of what artifact needs at the moment. The simplest way to address it would be to have a "no overkill" rule. Which would mean basically "don't curve into a unit that would otherwise be killed anyway" This rule is very simple, keeps the main function of arrows in tact, but prevents absurd cases like a single creep blocking two heroes. The Artifact I would love to see. Posted: 31 Mar 2019 05:18 AM PDT I instantly fell in love with Artifact when I found it. " A card game simulating a real MOBA?? YES PLEASE!! " Watched the few available videos about it and even tried to get a Beta Key. Was there, watching Kripp, Savjz and Swim on stream playing. Pre-purchased without a doubt and defended my choice at all times. Now I'm here, on a forum I registered long ago and haven't used in quite some time, reading that Artifact is going to be changed. I think the game NEEDS a change. It DESERVES it. So, I want to give a couple of points about how, in my opinion, Artifact should have been. - A card MOBA that doesn't feel like a MOBAI must say that I haven't played Dota, the game that Artifact is based on, but I have played League of Legends for 6 years now so I'm just gonna use it for my examples. So, what are the differences between this MOBA based card and a real MOBA? - MOVEMENT
These characters just DON'T MOVE. They all feel like Nasus, where they stick to their lane until the end of times. Like, mid lane may be on fire and would be nice to have a LITTLE BACKUP FROM THE GUY ON THE LANE NEARBY but nope! My guy is really busy beating the hell out of that 2/4 creep.
Give ALL CHARACTERS one "movement action" per turn. This action can be used to:
In my opinion it is pretty dumb that you have 2 characters on lane 1 and you could use one of them on lane 2, but instead of just WALKING from lane 1 to lane 2 they are just like: "NOPE! I MUST go back to base and THEN move to lane 2, but only if I have a tp scroll because I don't know how to get back on my own." Speaking of TP scrolls, if a champion moves from lane to lane, make it unable to attack this round. (You know, since it is tired from all that walking). TP scrolls allows you to move from any lane to any lane without that debuff. (Since it is instant and thus, no walking!) - STATS
I think that stats are dumb the way they are now in Artifact. I mean there are champions ONE-SHOTTING other champions right when the game STARTS (looking at you Axe) when there are others that BARELY survive a 1v1 against a CREEP (looking at you Maiden). I think that the equivalent would be summoning the 4 mana 7/7 from Hearthstone but on turn 1. I think it is dumb and makes no sense, fight me all you want.
Make ALL champions start "weak" and ramp up in stats as they go. After all, the game has JUST STARTED. The champions haven't really had the chance to buy ANY items whatsoever. For example, Axe on round 1 would be something like a 3/0/7. On the next round he will "level up" and will gain something like +1 attack and +1 health, making him now a 4/0/8. (Minus whatever damage he took from last combat). Eventually we will reach the full 6/2/10 stats on round 3, 4 or 5, but not full stats right from the start. - ITEMS
Items. Are. Boring. (and make no sense) There is barely any strategy with the items you pick. You either go for the cheap insta stat boost items or you go for the expensive game breaking ones. Like, tell me the last time you saw a Broadsword or a Keenfolk Plate and you thought "YES! This is EXACTLY the item I want". Specially damage. What's the point in having a 20+ damage hero if it is going to be absorbed by a simple 2/4? Also, you have these "wizardly" creatures like Crystal Maiden and Necrophos, fighting on a hand to hand combat with SWORDS against assassins and guys with bigger weapons or spiked armor. Imagine, just for a second, how awesome Artifact could be if it had some interesting weapons.
Making the items more "unique", in all meanings. There should be AT LEAST, ranged and melee weapons. Ranged weapons can only be equipped by "ranged" characters and melee weapons by "melee" characters. Ranged weapons will allow you to deal damage while taking none in return. This will at LEAST give a chance for small fragile characters to fight guys twice their size without the help of a literal blade engulfed in flames. Now, how about implementing more "strategy" items? Like a "Commander Sword" that gradually boosts the stats of your lane allies or a "Staff of Winter" that allows you to stun an enemy of your choice? What about an "Arcane Book" that increases the damage dealt by spells by a certain amount? A "Poisoned Dagger" that lets you disarm an enemy for 2 turns? You know, something more exciting than +2 attack. - STATUS EFFECTS
They are boring. Stun is OK, silence is most of the time powerful and disarm is kinda meh. But you know, there are more buffs/debuffs from MOBAS that could and should be implemented.
How about items and spells that cause "bleed"? "The character takes X amount of damage (that ignores armor) every turn. Stacks." How about items and spells that provide "enraged"? "If this character kills an enemy character on the battle phase, it may attack again." How about items and spells that cause "hidden"? "Hidden characters can't be targeted and suffer no battle damage" How about items and spells that provide "protector"? "Select an adjacent ally. Battle damage and targeted actions that would affect that ally will apply to you instead" This is more of a personal complain. The game will be changed and only time will tell how it is going to look. I personally thought of something like this when I knew Artifact was going to come out. I like the idea of trading card games and I LOVE the idea of a MOBA based card game. However, I do not like Artifact the way it is right now. I hope the changes to come forward will be for the greater good. I will stay here, waiting for you. As I have always been. [link] [comments] | ||

What could be learned from Blizzard Posted: 31 Mar 2019 08:28 AM PDT You do not gather beta test feedback, you give out many keys and measure the number of active players over extended period of time. Numbers don't lie. [link] [comments] |
