Lore: I am not a swordsman. I am an artist. Now, I'm not foolish enough to boast that none are my equal, after all the world is filled with exceptional individuals...but I am wise enough to know that I am better than most. — Trivian, the Satyr Duelist

[Rant] With just over 700 people playing when I sat down to play tonight... Posted: 06 Feb 2019 07:22 PM PST How are multiple opponents absolutely toxic as all fuck in quick chat? You'd think those of us left playing daily would be the ones that love the game and want people to stick around. [link] [comments]
Suggestion: tournament play would benefit significantly from spectator delay Posted: 06 Feb 2019 10:02 AM PST The current state of things is organized tournaments and qualifiers all have the spectate feature turned off for players, because of the risk of cheating, even if unlikely within our community. The solution for this is to make delay options available (even a minute). Wait time between rounds, where you need to be active but don't have enough time to play a game is really draining, and takes people away from the community (ex. go browse social media). I think given the choice they'd interact with peers while spectating (a spectator chat feature would be great!) and this would help build community. Just a quick idea, feel free to criticize or improve upon it :) [link] [comments]
Do you remember the application ID we found in steamDB before Artifact was released? Posted: 06 Feb 2019 05:37 PM PST I couldn't find those old posts. I remember Valve guys claimed that that is not Artifact. Could some old folks tell me if it is really not Artifact? And if it is Artifact indeed, what logs did they commit to each updates? Sorry guys, this post may be confusing to many of you who didn't come here before the release. [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Feb 2019 07:48 PM PST We all know the many problems that has been plaguing artifact since it's bomb of a release. The saddest part is thousands of potential players still own the game but it sits as a little icon on their desktop collecting dust. Many people had bought the game or pre purchased it and then weren't able to refund it or they tried to have an enjoyable experience but after many hours of facing swarms of Axes and Drows gave up. They should take in all the criticism we have offered to them and take a couple of months to revamp the game and learn from their mistakes. What do you all think? What winrate do you need to break even in current Prized? Posted: 06 Feb 2019 03:06 PM PST Now that the pack ev is ridiculously low, can't help but wonder how much winrate you need. Anyone got the Math? I can calculate it without considering recycling, but with it... it would be hassle [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Feb 2019 06:42 AM PST I posted this previously in response to a new player asking for advice, but thought it could be useful to have it's own thread where other people can add more resources and advice for new players. Here are my suggestions for new players learning the game. Please add any that you think would be helpful.
Once you start to get an idea of what style you like, you can often get several deck types if they cross over in color. For example, 4 red/1 black, Red/black midrange, mono red and red/black aggro have a lot of the same cards. Then you could add Mono Blue and have the tools to run Red/blue control and Black/blue econ. Or buy green cards and get Red/Green ramp and Black/Green Ramp. If you are patient with your purchases and make bids 1 cent over the highest current bid you can save money rather than just buying the current buy now price. [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Feb 2019 10:07 PM PST Great dota themed strategy game, has all the classic characters (Axe, Drow, Crystal Maiden), deploying dota heroes to battle feels great. Fast turns and not too lenient timer keeps you on yours toe every single time, a little rng but its easily able to be played around and thus making it a greater experience, i think axe is a little overpowered but they might tune him down again at some point. The game really feels like you're leading dota heroes to battle. I love Autochess. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Feb 2019 03:18 AM PST To start off, Artifact is doomed the way it is now. There is no denying it. I am a Dota 2 player that bought the game on launch and really enjoyed it for the first 40 h but stopped playing right after, but why? I enjoyed the core gameplay but somehow it didnt keep me hooked and that is not because i need stimulation games like Hearthstone to keep me active (tried and dropped it fast). I played Counter-Strike for several years and Dota 2 since 11 years. I just need to have fun. I couldnt stop thinking about what made me leave this game so fast so i am putting all my observations in this post well knowing most of it will never be realised without completely overhauling alot of the game.
The core gameplay is fun and engaging, but is has a huge weakness and it is not the randomness of Arrows or other stuff, it is the heroes. Heroes make this game extremely repetetive because each of them brings the same 3 cards into the deck which already makes up 15 cards of your 40. If you now add the horrible balance of heroes you end up playing against the same 2-4 decks all the time and even their added cards are mostly the same. Suggestion: Remove hero ability cards and just give heroes 2-3 active abilities with cooldowns or mana instead of one+cards. This way you play against alot more varied decks and you avoid the awkwardness of a Venomancer casting Thundergods Wrath and a Pugna doing a Berserkers Call. It just fells very off. This way you might enable cool duallane or trilane options like in dota as well. You can suddenly play around synergy of heroes in their lane instead of simply their color. Afterwards you need to balance heroes properly and actively, giving the meta some time to settle inbetween. Heroes were completely unbalanced and still are up to this date. Many people argue there is a role for every hero they just need to release more cards, but that is just not true. Axe, Drow and Kanna were so obviously overpowered that you just hampered yourself not playing them. On the other hand there is no incentive to ever put Timbersaw, CM, OD in your deck. When heroes make up for most of your decks identity this gets very problematic. This brings us to the next point.
Making a TCG instead of a CCG was a huge mistake. The market sounds like a good idea at first and i liked it as well. Until you realise the market ruins most of the close to nonexistent individualism of this game. In card games your deck is your identity, it is your creativity and ideas put into work. Why did noone play constructed and why do people leave the game? The reason is the same! Because you are not attached to anything in Artifact! Your deck is the same deck everyone else is playing since everything is on the marketplace and the balance of cards is so bad, you see the same principle of play all the time. Additionally there was no effort put into creating this deck. You went on the marketplace and pressed some buttons and voila your deck is finished. I played one or two games the last 2 months and immediatly left again because i never played against something interesting. Everyone who was still playing had invested money into a perfected deck. There is no improvisation with what you have and make the best out of your limited options, there is just the market and always the same 15 heroes doing the same stuff all over again. If you want longetivity make constructed the main game mode and make it fun to create a deck. This means unperfect decks play against unperfect decks, you see weaknesses and try to improve it, you see strenghts and try to build up on them. Right now the same 5 perfected decks play themselves and there is nothing to aim for and nothing to improve and improvement just means pouring money into the market.
The interface does not feel like a card game at all. Your background is a giant turtle and a campfire giving the notion of a cozy feeling. But there is no cozy feeling at all in the client. It feels cold and synthetic. The way you navigate through the client gives no feeling of a cardgame you enjoy with friends. The same goes for the missing chat options. Why do i have to add people after the game just to say a few words? Why put this obstacle between players? If this is a game you play together then dont put up obstacles between players to prevent interaction. Playing Artifact feels like i am super isolated, starting from the client over the gameplay and finishing with missing chat options. I do not interact with the client, my cards do not interact that much with my enemy and to finish it off i cannot interact with my opponent, i cant even draft with the only friend i had playing this game. Suggestion: You wrote lore about Artifact so why not implement it to make the client feel "warmer"? Make every page a location of the artifact lore and make the player feel like he is part of something bigger, together with the other players, to prevent this isolated feeling.
This game needs a working and responsive laddersystem. The current systems doesnt tell me anything and there is 0 feeling of improvement. The resonance is just not existent. If you change your deck (when people actually have individual decks) you want to know and feel if you do better or worse. The current system gives no feedback. An improved ladder and a page with statistics would give immediate and clear feedback. Give people the option to "lock in" up to 5 decks for stats and see how well your current iteration of deck is doing opposed to the others. These are the main weaknesses of Artifact for me. In contrast to many people who believe point 4 will make players come back i just see point 1 and 2 as a real chance for this game. Draft mode wont keep players around, interesting constructed will. Draft mode is fun and should complement it like Hearthstone Arena does. I know there are not many left to read this and it will most likely never be realised anyway, but i just tried to put into words what core points made Artifact fail the way it did. I think the game really had potential and might still have. It would need a complete remake though and people who invested need to be compensated for their loss. On the other hand their investment is lost anyways the way it is right now. [link] [comments]
Weekly reminder that ramp breaks the game and is why 90% of constructed matches are R/G Posted: 05 Feb 2019 11:37 PM PST Time of Triumph on turn 2. Multiple ways of hitting it on turn 2. Doesn't require a "high roll" or any other bs that R/G players try to pretend is necessary. No way to counter if done stars/stars. Only one way to counter if done Selemene/Stars (in which case YOU have to get the high roll luck with the counter card). The only reason we don't hear daily complaints about this is because the playerbase is so small. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Feb 2019 09:43 AM PST I'm pretty neutral on the idea of how initiative works in this game, curious how the community feels on it. On one hand I appreciate how it allows you to think a few turns in advance but on the other hand in my opinion any game mechanic that encourages you to not play or interact with the game is also kind of flawed. Would you guys hate it if applying items to characters didn't change initiative? What about just having more tools to regain initiative? [link] [comments]

Artifact Expandium: Black Heroes (for real this time!) Posted: 06 Feb 2019 04:06 AM PST
Hello again sub, today I want to continue with my series of custom Artifact cards with the next collection: Artifact Expandium: Black Heroes For Real This Time, containing over 20 Black Heroes made by me. It has come to my attention that I am actually braindead and accidentally titled my last post "Black Heroes" instead of "Blue Heroes". Sooorrryy! To make up for it, I decided to ACTUALLY share my custom Black Heroes in this Imgur album here. In case you missed the last thread on Blue Heroes, I suggest you check it out here because a lot of the concepts and mechanics included in this collection are explained over in that post, mainly how Night Stalker works with the Day & Night cycle, which I won't be explaining again for convenience's sake. Thank you for your time and, again, I would love to know your thoughts and opinions. Even the ugly ones. I'll take it. It was great to get feedback on many aspects about my last thread, including my overuse of the spoiler formatting. What I learned from the previous post was:

My two cents on the future of Artifact Posted: 06 Feb 2019 03:07 PM PST Artifact 1.0 was a good idea with poor execution. Too many features appear to have been left out in order to get the game released on time. Plus with all the negativity that went on during the closed beta made the release fail. Step one to fix this is something ive yet to see anyone disagree about, make the game free instead of behind the $20 paywall. However, the implementation of this should be done differnet to how a game like Hearthstone does free to play. Edit: To continue on from the custom tournaments I would also love as must customization as possible. From being able to make and use custom cards in lobbies to user balance patches and card editing. Though I'd imagine this would be hard to implement. To all the people complaining about lack of diversity of heroes or cards. That will be fixed with the addition of more card expansions. The game is new and there are limited cards, having patience is probably better then doing a major overhaul to the cards. [link] [comments] |
