I just realized that Artifact also failed as a "LGS" Game

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 04:13 PM PST

Just after playing Apex Legends for like 10 hours and having people adding me as as friend, talking to me and wanting to play and laugh togheter... i realized how Artifact failed in the social aspect.

Whenever i went to a LGS to play Magic i laughed, a lot, from people taking the game too serious to stupid mistakes i made or togheter with the guy playing a meme deck and winning everything. I made friends, went out drink some beer with the guys, to eat something and talk about dumb things. I had fun.

In my 200 hours of Artifact i did not talk to almost anyone, the chat system as cumbersome and i couldnt read the history. I also never was added or added someone as a friend, again it was combersome and counter intuitive. The times i wanted to say something nice to somebody after the game all i got was that "Your account cant send message to non-friends".

And to think that was probably the easiest part to do right, they somehow managed to screw it.

Prize Play feels terrible. A dota player who love artifact.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 07:59 PM PST

This is just my personal opinion. I spend thousands of hours playing Dota 2 since 2014. Recently, Valve introduced a new card game with heros from Dota and it's concept.

Tbh, i have never ever play any trading card games in my life so basically Artifact is my first digital card game.

It bought this game Because it is related with Dota & most of the dota players were streaming Artifact at that time so I kinda wanted to give it a try.

When I first played the Artifact, it is extremely complex and hard. The game instructions were not clear at all. Since, The instructions were not enough, I have to learn from other resources ( YouTube & stuff).

At that time , I used to build a deck with all the cards that I have or putting a single color cards in the deck. The game instructions didn't say me why it is optimal to build a deck with 40 cards & 9 items.

After a week, i started to enjoy the game and spend a lot of time playing Artifact instead of dota. Dota has a lot of toxicity in lower bracket ranking so 3 out 5 matches , I need to argue with my teammates.

But , when I tried prize play, it feels really bad. Losing two matches in a row and ended up leaving is not the problem for me. The real problem is when I have to leave the play after winning 2 games & losing two. Or when i played intense five games just to end up in the position that I once started (3 wins/2 lose). It just doesn't make sense to me.

A few weeks later, The ranking system was introduced.

In dota, we have normal match & rank matchmaking, where if I want to chill, I played the normal and If i get serious, I can play rank. (Yes both of them are free to play). Ranking come with (+ ) & (-) system so it is really competitive to rank up.

But in artifact, even when I try global matchmaking my ranking is effected and plus the rank never goes back. As the dota player, this ranking system just doesn't make sense for me. Still I played Artifact because I am kind of in love with the game.

Now currently I am at the constructed skill lvl 71 even I know I don't deserve that. Most of the time, I played standard constructed.

I had the habit of checking the opponent's deck after every game. Most of them have 80 cards or 100 something cards in their decks just I used to be. I feels bad when I won against them because I kinda ruined their experience with the game.

But when I try prize play, it is really competitive since Everyone is trying not to lose. I believe there are alot of people who play the prize play with the objectives of not to lose the tickets instead of winning those card packs.

Tbh, I don't need these packs, If i want packs, i will straight forward buy it.

But the current prize play is like "forcing us to buy packs regardless of whether we want it or not".

A lot of outsider suggest that Artifact needs to go free to play.

But I would like to suggest to remove the ticket system. Of course, I don't need the packs as reward too.

(If they still want to maintain ticket system, keeping "Keeper's draft, should be fine)

Just make the prize play like the ranking system with (+) & (-) ups & downs

So, playing the global matchmaking or standard won't effect the ranking system.

In that way, a newbie will likely to meet with another newbee like him so it won't ruin their expectations on the game.

Thank you for your time reading all my whimsical thought. I really appreciate that 😊.

    You dare me to play?

You know the song by Phil Collins, "In the Air of the Night"

About that guy who could a saved that other guy from drowning

But didn't, then Phil saw it all, then at a a show he found him?

That's kinda how this is, you could saved Artifact from drowning

Now it's too late, I'm in MTGA on a thousand hours now, I'm drowsy

And all I wanted was a lousy tweet or a post

I hope you know I sold all of my skins and resubbed to Disguised Toast

I love you Gaben, we coulda been together, think about it

You ruined it now, I hope you can't sleep and you dream about it

And when you dream I hope you can't sleep and you scream about it

I hope your conscience eats at you and you can't breathe without me

See Gaben, shut up Mazzie! I'm tryin' to talk!

Hey Gaben, that's my collection screamin' in the trunk

But I didn't sell it, I just uninstalled, see I ain't like you

ABL Team is proud to announce CHAOS IS A LADDER - 24/5 hourly lobbies! $2K BTC Main Event!

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 11:40 PM PST

    Discord: https://discord.gg/6PUdk58

24/5 Hourly Lobbies A new lobby starts on the hour every hour Wednesday to Sunday 128 players per lobby This will create 55,296 lobby spots per month Anyone can play in any lobby as much as they please

$2000 BTC Main Event 128 players All players qualify from the leaderboard No invites, maybe next season will have some spots for invites $2K BTC Main Event takes place last weekend of the month, details to be announced February's Main Event will be March 2-3 because February is short.

Format BO1 Single Elimination with BO3 Final This format is due to logistical issues, server bugs, and game constraints. Draft Only - Constructed will come when one or more expansions are released 15 minutes to draft, 5 minutes to queue for your game at any stage. Admin will kick without remorse, with or without warming. Lobbies must be kept moving along. No redrafts All admins are volunteers, this is the best format for keeping burnout to a minimum

Lobby links distributed over Discord, Wechat, and QQ!

lobby-links channel is where invite links will be posted 30-60 minutes before the start of each lobby If you only care for the lobby links, mute all channels except this one. You will receive a push notification if you are online at the time of the link being posted.

Discord is the main place of coordination and source of information. It is too much extra effort to diligently update multiple sources of information. Inevitably something falls through the cracks and it creates problems. If you want to play, join the ABL Discord. WeChat and QQ are for our Chinese brothers and sisters behind the GFC and unable to access Discord without a VPN. This is the only exception being made for the Discord only rule.

Scoring 1st = Number of players at the start of the lobby (n) 2nd = n/2 3rd/4th = n/4 5th-8th = n/8 9th-16th = n/16 This means points will automatically be adjusted based on the size of the lobby.

Leaderboard this will be up in the leaderboard channel and eventually the ABL website as well Edit: the leaderboard is now automated and live! Thanks catoftheyear!!!!

ABL-Journal-of-Applied-Science If you have insight on redrafting, please see the above channel in discord. A panel of your peers will seriously consider any coherent submissions based on sound mathematics, statistics, or modeling. Opinions, anecdotal experience, or piecemeal thoughts are not actionable and will not be considered. Remember to step out of the ivory tower and consider how any redrafts will impact the volunteers who have to run the lobbies.

We still need a few NA/SA and Indonesian admins.

Special thanks to <BAD> - akbasemre1 and all the new Chaos admins! Also our volunteer coders who are working on automating the leaderboard!

    Artifact Expandium: Custom Green Heroes

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 07:32 AM PST

Before anything, I would like to say that I am not a developer nor do I take too much pride over these cards. I don't see them as my creations: they were made with software that is not mine, inspired from a game I didn't develop and use card art that I haven't made nor credited. This is just me sharing my ideas with, hopefully, like-minded people.

    • TL;DR: Click the first link and enjoy some custom artifact cards. Come back to this post when you don't understand anything.

What's up sub, today I want to bring you the last collection of my Custom Heroes with

Artifact Expandium: Green Heroes, which you can check out in this Imgur album here. My main focus with Green Heroes was to provide buffs to units in various ways, as well offer defensive and swarming options. There's also a couple of movement, Death-related synergies and a lot of assimilation of units: units combining into units, units transforming into units... just an overall mess based around keeping units alive and powerful.

As usual, you will find a lot of mechanics and keywords that are explained in my first post here, so read it out before you go into these. You can also find my custom Red Heroes list in this post and my custom Black Heroes in this post.

And of course, thank you for the feedback and I'd love to know your thoughts and opinions about these cards.

PCGamer says 'Artifact' is a terrible title for a videogame.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 09:13 PM PST

Personally think this is a pretty dumb article but it involves Artifact, so here it is:

It is not a good idea to name your flashy, incredibly complex new card game after something kept in a museum. Artifact is pretty damn fun, but there's nothing intriguing or welcoming about its name. Even the typeface and logo are boring, a patterned inverted triangle and a sterile font set below. It looks like something I'd see on a door downtown in a mid-sized city marking the location of a mildly successful web development company. I might expect to see it on the sleeve of some Swedish guy in 50th place on the Tour De France, maybe on an ancient temple in the second act of a Bioware game. Artifact doesn't excite or comfort me like Magic or Hearthstone. It is cold and dead and so, so boring.

Artifact's Failure in a nutshell. Valve Devs should read.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 09:09 PM PST

I just wrote this general idea as part of another post and realized this is the entire failure of Artifact's current state concisely summarized:

Learning a card game when you are NEW to card games is REALLY, REALLY, HARD. They had such a greedy launch that anyone who was giving card games a try simply because they love dota (basically their entire demographic, which was a fail in itself not marketing to more player bases)... these players just had no reason to continue playing. They are going to become immediately frustrated by the difficulty of learning how to play card games from scratch (with the hardest card game I've played), AND there is literally no incentive for them to learn and improve... not 1 single F'ing thing... the only way they can progress is to pay to buy cards on the market when THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO PLAY CARD GAMES TO BEGIN WITH?! WHY DID VALVE SHOVE CARD GAME NOOBS INTO A SITUATION WHERE EVERYTHING SUCKS? At the very least they could of had some kind of generous progression system so players would feel like it's worth their time and money to figure things out?! That's about 80% of Artifact Players at launch, Valve's inability to recognize such an obvious fact that their players will be primarily coming from Dota is astounding... It's like in World War 1 where commanders/generals/Kaisers of various countries were selected not for their merit of how good a job they can do... but they just get handed their position on a silver platter probably for nothing more than kissing ass (or being born to someone in WW1) to some higher level management... Sad but true, gaming management is just as shitty as real world politics, I've seen it myself when I worked briefly as Microsoft Games Tester. These people in charge of Artifact S#*& the bed so hard that an incredible game is almost dead already.

Hopefully Valve can understand what I just wrote because it 100% perfectly illustrates their failure as company to retain costumers. This should accelerate their ability to give people who aren't try hard card game pros a reason to play the game... right now even some of the best players in the world such as Lifecoach said straight up on their stream their is no motivation to play this game. If you are a card game god and you have no motivation, how in the F&*# did they expect people who never played a card game in their life to want to continue... they didn't do 1 single thing... NOT 1 SINGLE F'ING thing to make the vast majority of their players happy at launch. It's inexcusable and people should be fired if it was up to me.

Would lock be a better mechanic if it added mana cost instead?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 01:32 PM PST

It would be a lot weaker, but at least not as a hard screwover in late game situations. Lost in time would instead increase 3 random cards in your opponents hand by 3 mana for 3 turns. Or something similar.

Artifact's Strengths and Weaknesses as a CCG - Research Help Request

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 09:39 PM PST

Hi, everyone! I'm Lothari - a content creator for Team Aretuza, a pro team for Gwent, a CCG like Artifact.

I come to you today to request help with some research. As part of a series of articles I am writing for my team, I would like your help in identifying Artifact's strengths and weaknesses!

As a quick summary, the articles will aim to identify the perceived strengths and weaknesses of Gwent as a CCG and what it might learn from other 'big' games in the genre, like Artifact, as well as identify patterns in player and viewer numbers in order to determine whether CCGs are being hit by genre fatigue (a phenomenon wherein an entertainment genre experiences a sudden and widespread drop in popularity) and what game developers might do about it.

How can you help? It is hard to identify objectively what is good and bad about games, but by collecting the opinions of as many people as possible, we might be able to spot a pattern in what you, the game's audience, perceive to be strengths and weaknesses. This means, first and foremost, that I need as many people who are able to fill out this Artifact survey (see link below). It does not take long to fill out (about 5-10 minutes) and will not record or collect any data such as names or email address.

I would very much appreciate your help in this matter as it's important to gather as much data as possible. That said, if you know of anyone else that might be interested in helping out, please do feel free to share the link!

    Thanks! Enjoy your Artificing!

Has anyone done the math on how long it would take to get to level 200

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 09:11 AM PST

Because I'm pretty sure the devs didn't. This leveling and rewards system was so sloppily implemented , but I guess it's better than nothing
