Why Artifact actually failed as a game.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2019 10:49 AM PST

Back in the day, when our god and savior GabeN left Microsoft to create his small, indie game studio (which is now known as Valve), he met a beggar at the street. As he was passing by, the beggar grabbed his hand and looked at it.

GabeN immediatly pulled his hand back, shouting "What the fuck?!". The beggar was a fortune teller, and she told him that great success awaits him in his new endeavours. She opened her hand, expecting payment. However, Gaben ignored her. As he was leaving, she yelled at him, and cursed him: "While you will initially succeed, you will fail once you go for number 3."

GabeN laughed and left. However, he still remembers that old lady to this day, and is afraid of the curse. That's why we never had a Valve game with the number 3. Until now.

So hear me out: Artifact's symbol is a Triangle (With 3 sides).

The game is played in 3 lanes, all of which start with 3 mana.

3 heroes are spawned for each player at the start of the game.

The cost of basic items is 3.Many weak units' attack, especially blue heroes, revolve around the number 3.

There are 3 different arrow outcomes.

You can have up to 3 options at the shop.

You can have up to 3 copies of each card in your deck (in fact, heroes add 3 copies of their signature card in your deck that you can't avoid, MAKING SURE your deck has 3 of one card.)

The game can be considered the third game in the DotA franchise, even though it is not named Dota 3.

    What do you guys think?

Edit: Oh my god this is my first reddit award ever, didn't mean for this post to explode that much XD
    Thanks for the gold people!

DotA's quest system is in my humble opinion a better way to give people a feeling of progress and preferable to grinding ranked all day

Why does this game get brigaded so much?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 11:04 PM PST

I've been asked on stream and I've seen few redit threads how to draft? So here is my thought process behind it

    Lore: Lorlin Lasan

    Posted: 02 Feb 2019 08:14 AM PST

Lorin Lasan is a name that has been there since Dota 2's Pangolier and Dark Willow got introduced, about the time Artifact was still in development. In Artifact's lore he plays a role in and narrates many cards. Escape Route introduces him as "The Leader of the Jasper Circle", and as a Kobold he's been shown in the art of many cards as well such as Escape Route. He's a friend of Slark, and has relations to Riki and Meepo. So who is he exactly? What is the Jasper Circle? What do you think the relations of the Jasper Circle, Revtel, and the Iron Fog are? I'm interested in hearing some theories.

This game lacks any skill incentive

    Posted: 02 Feb 2019 09:36 AM PST

After you can go limitless in prized gauntlet, there's nothing else left. Major tournaments are sporadic, Valve sponsored ones non-existent. This games needs something to aim for. What is it? Where is it?

I'm so sick of Golden Ticket ruining games

    Posted: 02 Feb 2019 08:09 PM PST

Why is this kind of absolute game winning swingy RNG in the game?

I'm about 1 more game away from getting Horn of the Alpha'ed or Helm on turn 2 or 3 from uninstalling

[BUG] The Held Secret Shop Item disappear if you got disconnected after hold the item.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2019 02:48 AM PST

[BUG] The Held Secret Shop Item disappear if you got disconnected after hold the item.

Straight to the point ( because I don't know what to say )

You get into the shopping phase, and see that beautiful Secret Shop's Item but doesn't have enough gold to buy, so you Hold the item, end of shopping phase, hero deployment phase, lane 1 ended, lane 2, got disconnected, got reconnected, lane 2 ended, lane 3 ended, shopping phase, the card disappear or rather not rendered.

But if you decide not to Hold that 'invisible' Item, and on the next shopping phase, the item will reappear / re-rendered again, although it's different item, obviously.

The Secret Shop's Item Card disappeared, it's got hold on the previous shopping phase. For those who asking what item it is, I'm already forgot what it is.

EDIT : Fix some grammar, but maybe just make it worse.

When did Chaos Blitz go up to 16 players?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2019 04:18 AM PST

I didn't play one in a few days and now the one I'm in is 16 players.

Used to be 8 max, insta start. Now we had to wait for 16?

    Relief after sinking opp's warship

    Posted: 02 Feb 2019 03:58 PM PST

I mean after many hours spent on Artifact, I think i realized what fundamental problem I have with the game. Artifact has a weird way how it works with my psyche. After almost each game I feel either:

When I win, I don't feel especially well.. I would describe it mostly like relief.

When I lose, mostly I feel tilted and angry.

The gameplay also feels like trying to sink an enemy 17th century warship with yours in a stormy and wavey sea. I feel like I'm battling the navigation, sails, the cannons and the waves themselves more than the opponent in the actual fight..

Any way to play chaos blitz against a friend?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2019 04:18 AM PST

Seriously I'm so upset about this. This is THE perfect game mode to just start up with a friend and play a few random decks. Okay I can't play phantom draft with a friend (god knows why), okay. But please at least let me play this one, there is literally no reason to not let this be a 2-player mode.

Why do they insist on having 4 players in a tournament? Why can't I just play this with my friend? WHY?

(if there is any way to do so that I missed please ignore my rant, and let me know how)

EDIT: apparently there is a way..? I cannot test it rn, but if that's the case nevermind me.. it still should be the case for phantom draft too, but this eases the pain at least

EDIT2: okay I was stupid, I'm gonna leave the thread for anyone wondering though

Blitz mode with a ladder to replace the Call to Arms event please.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2019 05:23 AM PST

This mode is incredible fun, but tedious to play in the tournament structure.

Replace call to arms with blitz mode for a month or so and get a lot more people playing. Will be so much better for everyone involved.

    Thanks and good day sir

What are your picks for cards which are more or less useless and bad right now, but could become useful

in the future with expansions and changes, and why.
