    1/10 Update

TIL that if you click the red X to cancel a queue and match at roughly the same time, you will get a loss.

It was fucking keeper draft too. It pulls me into the game, deploys heroes and then gives me a surrender. Really tilted.

Is there anyone playing Keeper Draft?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 05:31 AM PST

Guys, I'm in keeper draft queue for 30 min already, is there anyone up for a game now? My score is 3-1, 17 rank, need similiar. If not now, maybe we can schedule a game for tomorrow (I'm free 7-9 pm CET)? Help.

You can only use icons of your level. :S

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 06:27 AM PST

I'm glad I unlocked that creep icon, that I will never be able to use anymore because I reached level 10 today.

What's the point ? People may be willing to show off their levels, but some might just prefer aesthetics.

[Opinion] The Market was a mistake.

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 09:51 AM PST

As the title says, I think the whole market idea was a mistake that hurt the game release AND will make it harder for players that stopped playing to come back again. Here is my 3k words essay about the topic.

    • Most people don't want to play stock market simulator. They just want to play a videogame. Life is shitty enough as it is, most people don't want to be reminded about money or having thoughts about if they should sell, buy, their cards losing value, etc. That's stressful.

    • The Market doesn't make the cards cheaper. Not per se. Cards have the price they have because Valve (the only card producer) set the price to $2 per pack and a rarity system. If packs costed $50 each, cards would be more expensive. If packs costed $0.10, cards would be cheaper. Valve sets the price like any other card game but in a more complicated way.

    • The "no nerfs/buffs philosophy" because of the Market. Valve did a 180º on this, and that's good, but it hurt the game launch. Most people just want to play a videogame and have fun. They don't give a fuck about the cards having "value" like some kind of investment. Not balancing a game makes the game boring.

    • No way of winning packs or cards for free. All because of the Market and the fear of the player's investments, the cards, losing value. They changed their mind but the damage is done.

    • Most people that stopped playing sold their cards. They are not going to come back, not to play constructed anyway. Not a lot of people are going to rebuy the cards after selling all of them, including the free decks. It's even less likely when/if they release expansions because they would need to buy even more cards to be competitive. They'll say fuck it and play something else.

    • The memes. Most of the negative public reception of Artifact in one way or another comes down to the Market. A lot of bad decisions were made to have a market and preserving the cards value. Pay2Pay2Win, etc.

As a conclusion I think they tried to make the niche MtG crowd happy and alienated most of their potential player base.

    Edit:

Some people are saying the market is great because it lets you buy the cards you want. That's true. But the same could be achieved if Valve just sells cards for a fixed price instead of only packs. You can have this nice thing without a market.

Why gauntlets are bad for player experience and Why stats/ranks are important

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 03:51 PM PST

Hello, just A short post, to let people Who are maybe new to card games, have an idea Why stats and ranks would actually make people play more and Why gauntlet format makes people leave The game.

Card games are games for The long term. As simple as this. Card games don't give you much remeber for 1 game, maybe some big plays and so, but we surely remeber The bad things- bad arrows, unlucky draws/deployments. We dont even notice when it goes in our favour, but when it goes against us we hate it.

This is part of any card game and it's Fine, because as i said 1 game shouldnt meen much, shit happens. If your an active cardgame player you play hundreds of matches per Month and if you have proper rankings/stats then you focus on how you are doing over those hundred games not 1 game in particular. But since artifact lacks any leaderboards or profiles, The games dont feel connected.

And for Why gauntlets are bad: as i mentioned before, if you have good matchmaking with ranks and stats and you play hundred games per month, If you lose 2 games in A row, whatever The cause- bad luck, strong opponents. You will forget about it after you win your next games.

However since gauntlets are isoleited events getting 2 bad games in A row both feels terrible and cant be forgetten so easily, add to that The ticket lost. And you are Sure to have dislike towards The game and not want to play.

I am sorry for my bad English, but wanted to share my toughts on how important it is for artifact to get A good stats/rank system for game to be sucessful. I see so many people say that core game is bad, that people would enjoy it without ranks/stats/goals if it was good. But it not true. Rankings is suppose to be part of any card game, because What is important is how you enjoy The game over large sample size not 1 good or bad game.

I really like the new turn timer.

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 07:48 PM PST

This was needed from the beginning. There is still plenty of time to play your cards, and it lessens the chance of a player roping to make me rage quit.

Valve did something right for once.

    Brainscans 2019 League

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 08:01 AM PST

    https://twitter.com/brainscans_net/status/1082672841596850176

Hey /r/Artifact garesnap( @garesnap ) founder of Brainscans.net here. Tonight begins the first night of our 2019 League! We've taken a ton of feedback from our league back in December, and made some serious adjustments to our format.

The biggest complaint in December was that the league ran extremely late for non-US players. We want to expand our horizon as broad as possible and give as many people as possible an opportunity to play soooooo.... We've included two time slots this season!

Every Thursday we will have 2 groups playing at separate times( you can switch groups between weeks ). One group at 6pm GMT, and one at 6pm EST.

The league will be ongoing from now until the end of February, with games each Thursday, rotating Draft and Constructed formats. The top point holders will be invited to our Finals, along with 1st place winners of each week. Points are awarded based on participation and performance in the weekly tournaments. 1st place winner of the finals will receive 100 USD. And winners of each week along with a finals invite, will recieve a 5 dollar steam card. (that's for the winners of each group)

As always, everybody is welcome to play. We will post the invite links to each group 1 hour before game-time, in our Discord( http://brainscans.net/discord ).

I will continue to update this post as the day goes on with invite links. Hope to see you guys tonight!

Holy hell, the new timer update makes the game so much more fun.

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 09:11 PM PST

It just picks up the pace so much! Instead of sitting around waiting for the other person to play, it's just a non-stop back and forth.
