Is ramp just dumb in all card games?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 09:17 AM PST

I'm all in on this weplay tournament. Loving it. But everyone's running ramp and so much of it is just who draws the ramp and the right cards to ramp into. I know every card game and every deck is subject to card draw rng, but it seems like the concept of ramp exacerbates the effects of that rng.

If anyone happened to see the "blank screen" stream on twitch tonight that Anger hosted, that was me. Thanks for showing up.

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 08:49 PM PST

I tried to stream using OBS and couldn't figure it out so it was just a blank screen, but I had already started a game so I just figured I would wait until that game ended and then try again. When the game ended and I went to check twitch, it turns out that I had been hosted by Anger, and there were a decent amount of people "watching" the stream who subsequently helped me get set up. I actually ended up playing a game on stream and it was cool. Thanks to everyone who showed up. It is unlikely I will ever stream again, but if it does end up being my only stream ever, at least it was memorable.

If anyone cares, here is the video - Anger hosts and the people show up in chat at 21:33.

I really enjoy the social aspect of artifact and love that is can actually talk to my opponents

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 06:56 AM PST

I hate how so many games block communication in their games, maybe only added a few text options.

I remember how utterly lonely the first week of artifact was and it was depressing

But now I can actually talk to them and use voice lines.

Sure I wish we had chat history and a more normal chat box too but I'm still very glad with it and have added numerous ppl after games and had some great convos during them.

More in game social aspects would be cool

Why is Artifact Twitter dead for a month now?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 09:49 PM PST

    Hi all,

I bought the game yesterday against my own better judgement because I honestly can't keep away from any CCG.

However when searching online every game critic mentions the game lost 97% playerbase.

Twitter account has been inactive for almost a month now (no matter what, this is bad news for a game only gew months old)

And I keep getting matched against level 20's with some superior decks. I'm level 1 and at least want get a feel for the gane before dropping money into the game.

Is the playerbase really doing this badly and what are your personal opinions about the state of the game?

    Tnx in advance.

Of the 43 main-deck Common cards, only 3 of them have a mana cost over 4.

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 01:12 AM PST

I find this particularly weird given as we were told there was no correlation between rarity and power. Not trying to be alarmist or anything, but shouldn't there be more Commons with higher mana costs, or a more even distribution?

I only just noticed this now trying to make a Commons-only deck for fun with a friend.

    Steam Group for scrims

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 10:40 AM PST

    Hi fellow players,

I created a steam group dedicated to help other players find scrims.

I'm open to ideas, and this might be a big flop, but I find it hard to find scrims easily. I do participate to a lot of tourneys, as AOC, ESL or others, but sometimes doing a constructed scrim could be nice too, so you can test out some changes.

Standard Play should be the competitive mode.

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 05:59 AM PST

Right now, everyone who wants to play this game competitively is playing Prized Play. This is bad for a number of reasons, mostly that this lends credence to those who say that the game is p2p2p. If you want to play a game competitively you should not have to continue to pay to do so. For that reason, skill rating should be removed from Prized Play, or at least incentives made to play Standard.

Prized Play and competition seems to be at odds no? The main thing is that people don't want strict matchmaking in Prized Play because then no one would ever win prizes. If you are playing against equally skilled players your winrate is being brought closer to 50%, and you would quite easily lose that ticket you paid for, which feels bad. This is counterproductive to a competitive environment. As far as I understand, Skill Rating doesn't really affect matchmaking in Prized Play.(I could be wrong here). I see pro players like Swim going against clearly newer players with bad decks in his first few rounds of a gauntlet run. It's not until after winning 3 or 4 games is he getting competitive matches. This seems really bad for a game that is focused on being competitive. Pro players should always be facing other players at the top of the ranking system when they are playing the competitive mode.

Right now, there is no reason to play Standard Play over Prized Play, so barely anyone is playing it. This leads to a situation where players come into this game wanting to be competitive, try their hand at Prized Play, lose all their tickets, and then stop playing. Nobody wants to play the casual mode. Removing skill rating from Prized Mode would actually encourage people to play more. They would practice and see where they get on the free ranked ladder, and then they would also have some tickets to use from their weekly free rewards and play Prized.

We all know that Valve is going to revamp the skill rating system. What they have in place is not going to cut it. When they do, I hope they address the issues I have outlined above. I think Valve wants Standard Play to be the focus as well, seeing as how they changed the name from "Casual" to "Standard". What do you guys think?

Why is there no controller support?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 10:50 AM PST

Valve them self said that "using a controller versus a keyboard & mouse is an increasingly popular way to play games."

Artifact definitely is a game that would work great with steam link/in home streaming. I don't really get why proper controller support hasn't be implemented yet. It may work with a controller but it feels very clunky because you just have the mouse emulation slapped on the right pad instead of having proper control options. No menu control with the analog stick etc.

I really hope they soon implement more options than (almost) just being able to control the game with your mouse.

Can we replace gauntlet with normal ladder ?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 09:54 PM PST

I really dislike this mode for constructed. It makes me stop playing the game after I finish the gauntlet because it feels like I am starting over.Instead having a ladder would make me play this game much more since I would just be in this "just one more game" mentality.
