The Artifact "competitive scene" needs a refresh

    Posted: 21 Jan 2019 04:43 AM PST

You can't even tell if the players that are being invited to the big tournaments are the top players or not. They are just being invited because the organizers believe they are the best players because other players are having a hard time proving themselves. It would be great to see a big tournament that consists of qualifier slots only.

Why is Blink Dagger so cheap?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2019 05:04 PM PST

I'm not trying to complain here. I'm just trying to understand why Blink Dagger only costs 7 Gold. That item has won me so many games and I lost so many games because of it (when the enemy was using it).

I know there is already a post about the gold cost of Blink Dagger but that post was submitted before the Artifact release and I think by now many of us have gathered more experience with Artifact.

Blink Dagger is an auto-include in 80%+ of my decks and it seems like 80%+ of my oppenents include Blink Dagger in their deck as well. Isn't that a sign that a card isn't balanced well? Can someone explain why it is so cheap? Maybe there is a balancing reason for that and I just don't get it. Maybe the game is built with the expectation of people playing Blink Dagger in most of their decks. I don't know.

When compared to the 10 Gold items one could argue that some of those items work better in SOME situations, but Blink Dagger only costs 7 Gold and usually is the better option. That price is a steal, and you still get the +2 Attack.

    Any ideas?

Mainline.GG is restructuring our weekly tournaments!

    Posted: 21 Jan 2019 11:23 AM PST

We're moving into our 6th $500 weekly tournament! We've been loving the opportunity to host tournaments in the Artifact scene, and you're truly an awesome community. We learned a lot from everyone in the scene, and are actively listening to your feedback. As such, we made some changes to our weekly format!

    • The top 16 from the previous week will automatically qualify for "Phase 2" of the next week. We believe that this allows consistently performing players to be rewarded. Additionally, if someone under performs, they would then have to qualify for the next week's tournaments. All tournaments for this week, will be Constructed.
    • We have done away with invites as a whole. Competitive integrity is something that we prioritize above all else, and is one reason we only did invites up to Phase 2 in our tournaments. We initially did this to allow influencers in the scene the opportunity to get accustomed with our tournaments, we believe that we're at a stage in which we can now transition into a qualifier only tournament.
    • We've added mini tournaments that allow individuals to qualify for phase 2 of the tournament. These tournaments will be held throughout the week, and will allow individuals to skip the "Phase 1" last chance qualifier stage. We will distribute 20 qualifier slots throughout the week (top 4) from 5 mini tournaments. The format and schedule for these will be posted each Sunday after our tournaments, or early Monday going forward!

    Mini tournament format:

64 players compete in a 5 round Swiss, top 16 advance to a single elim bracket, and must win two (2) BO3 rounds to place top 4, qualifying them for Phase 2. All mini tournaments will follow this format besides the Blitz Qualifier, which will use a different format.

    Mini Tournament Format Schedule:

    Monday 3PM EST
    Tuesday 1PM EST
    Wednesday 1PM EST
    Wednesday Blitz Qualifier 5PM EST
    Thursday 1PM EST

Blitz Qualifier- 64 players compete in a four round single bo1 elim, top 4 players will qualify to Phase 2.

    Last Chance Qualifier Format:

128 player single elimination BO1 bracket.

Top 16 will qualify (Win 3 games).

    Last Chance Qualifier Schedule:

    Tournament Registration (1/27) 12:45PM EST
    Deck Registration 1:00PM EST
    Games Start 1:05PM EST

This will be played immediately before the tournament, this Sunday. (You'll have known this as Phase 1, also known as Last Chance Qualifier). Instead of only 256 players able to participate, you'll now have up to 448 participants between the qualifiers and LCQ.

Where can you join our qualifiers? In our discord! Make sure to check out the #tournament-info channel. Additionally, you will find the full tournament information in the document located here.

$500 Prize pool distribution (each week):
    1 - $250
    2 - $150
    3/4 - $50

    New Eclipse feels unsatisfying?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2019 08:18 AM PST

What do you guys think of the animation change on the Eclipse?

To me it feels a lot less fun than before. Previous animation felt very much aligned with DOTA and it also felt fun as you were hoping for RNG going your way and trying to predict where the next one will hit.

New animation takes the fun out of RNG and you basically get the final state of the outcome immediately. I know it helps speed the game up but I think this one went too far. I personally hope they change it back or at least make it a compromise between what it was and what it is now.

    As a sponsor

    Posted: 21 Jan 2019 07:52 AM PST

I can see the frustrations regarding the open qualifier situation regarding Artifact Pit and I understand it. To be honest, WePlay really lifted their game with the Agility tournament and lifted the bar in the process.

OGA and I started talking about Artifact during the early Beta as I had hoped they would do something in the tournament scene. They have an extremely good reputation in the tournament space with what they've done in Dota and other esports.

I was really excited about this game as someone who has 4900 hours in Dota and needed something else to play that was more solo orientated.

I wasn't familiar with modern card games with my last foray into it being in primary school playing Magic in the corner away from everyone with some fellow nerdlings.

When the game was released and was hit by so much negative feedback I didn't understand it a lot. I never saw the P2W side of things. Constructed for me is boring as well, so maybe that's why. Not only that, as someone who has spent more then they'd like to admit on Dota cosmetics, the costs seemed relatively low.

Unfortunately, the game went south very quickly and by the time I was approached about this game, it was just one of two options on the table. I was already loving this game, in the brief beta I packed in 40 hours and since release now I've done a little over a 100. I wanted us to dive a little into the world of esports this year and I wanted to sponsor something I really enjoy. I got to do one of the Elimination Mode tournaments with MoonDuck a few years ago and just felt a sense of pride seeing the logo of the company I work for on something I really love.

When I spoke to them I mentioned two things. One was that I really wanted the tournament to be Artifact. Long term I believe in this game because I believe in Valve. The more tournaments we can have, hopefully the more the game can grow.

Second, I wanted it to be draft. As someone who loves watching a number of esports including Dota, CSGO, and SC2 I was so tired of watching double stars align into time of triumph in Artifact. Even more so after the latest WePlay tournament. While I didn't understand it at the time, one of the most enjoyable tournaments for me was rewatching the BTS draft tournament that was done before launch.

If you think just throwing money at a tournament is no big deal to all the sponsors and they don't really care. I just want to let you know this isn't true. As a component company esports is a little rough for us as we don't really know how beneficial it is. Most data tells us that esport viewers don't tend to build computers. For me, I think the Artifact viewer is probably older and possibly more beneficial. This is why StarCraft 2 is something that I have been paying more attention to in the last year as it's began to ramp up again and it was the first esport I really followed. I'm one of those people who payed for a GSL ticket and MLG ticket many moons ago.

I'm really lucky that I have the opportunity to promote some things I love. I just hope you don't think that the all sponsors are just writing checks not giving a shit. I live in Taiwan and won't be able to watch most of the tournament live as it starts at 11pm but will be watching it the following day.

I also hope it's a success not because I'm a sponsor. But because OGA went outside the box and did a Draft tournament and I'd love to see more of these.

I'd hope that if it does go well they'll do an open qualifier on their second run like WePlay as they find their feet and I hope as some people mentioned it brings over people from some other games who stopped paying attention before the major patch came out.

Oh, and go Swim!!!! And Petrify today, got to support a fellow Aussie :)

Demand Fair Open Qualifiers! Stop supporting meritless advertis....i mean tournaments.

    Posted: 21 Jan 2019 02:40 AM PST

    Hey,

Really not many people left in this community. I'd expect more from those who have the IQ to still play the game. Jokes aside, i'd expect more from players still sticking to the game than to support fking atrocious behavior, when advertisement campaigns are masqueraded as tournaments . The latest one being the PIT something something with invite only, where they invite nobody but those who have social media presence, basically still the closed beta players.

This is a very short sighted approach that fosters zero talent within the community, and people play for amazing money who dont even play the fking game.

Stop supporting these tournaments. Stop watching them, stop upvoting them .Stop kissing their asses for throwing chunk change into this (because 10k in ads is pennies)

Also start demanding organisers that parade in the guise of helping the community (when they are only doing their shit for profit) that they stop doing the invite of special people who have not earned the right to be invited via in game demonstrated skill.

Demand that the few of us left to be taken seriously and give us a fair chance at getting into these tournaments, and dont poke our eyes out with qualifiers that are BO1 1/128 and you even have to be fking lucky to register into the tournament because after the link is posted the tourney fills up in under 5 fucking seconds.

Demand that they post their tournaments here and on the sites that collect these info, because currently all these tourneys are hidden behind their twitter of discord server, because they want followers because that is what sells. There is a reason why there is rarely a post anywhere about a tourney having its reg open. Firstly you can only join if you follow them, secondly the tourney fills in under 5 sec so it would not even matter.

Also, bring fking draft some seriousness please. These joke draft tourneys of BO1 are pathetic compared to the more well structured constructed.

I highly doubt more people play constructed, and the ones you see that do (on streams) do it because they have to practice to get the free moneys from all the tourneys they are being invited.

I know "Skill Rating" or levels don't mean much, but I reached some milestones today.

    Posted: 21 Jan 2019 04:49 PM PST

so I played against a 70 rated player in constructed while I'm only 4

    Posted: 21 Jan 2019 09:45 AM PST

my draft rating is 30 tbf but my constructed is 4 (I am level 15) does that make the rating system meaningless? like what's the point of rank if not to play against similar rank players?

not that I mind or anything, games are always close so it's a lot of fun but I'm very confused how the rank system works

    Question about Bloodseeker and Zeus

    Posted: 21 Jan 2019 07:52 PM PST

Let's say you have Zeus and a Melee creep next to each other in lane. Your opponent has a Bloodseeker opposite the melee creep, so Bloodseeker is blocked by the creep and neighbouring Zeus. If you play At any Cost it will do 6 damage to Bloodseeker and Zeus (who both have 7 health) and kill the melee creep.

Now Bloodseeker's passive should proc off the melee creep dying and heal him to full. However Zeus's passive will also proc off of the spell and deal 1 damage to Bloodseeker. Which passive will trigger first or do they both trigger at the same time?

In other words does Bloodseeker get healed and then take Zeus damage allowing him to live on 6 HP or is he killed before he can heal from the creep death?

What I'm hoping for in the next big patch

    Posted: 20 Jan 2019 10:43 PM PST

I've seen many people wanting Imp hats or other cosmetics features implemented ASAP. While it would be great to have those, they should focus on finishing/polishing the features that are already there, with some necessary additions. Here's what I'm hoping for in the next patch:

Match history. This one is pretty important IMO. It might have to come with user profiles.
In-game spectating. It seems they already have that working since we saw it on the WePlay tournament.
Stats. Such as end-game statistics, and Win/Lose ratio for specific decks/heroes. They could be displayed on profiles.
Replays. I always wish I could watch my games again to analyze/learn about what I should've done differently.

Aside from much needed balance changes, those 4 things could already make the game so much better. Discuss your thoughts

How i immagined Artifact would have been(graphically).

    Posted: 21 Jan 2019 05:52 AM PST

Hello guys, i'm in this subreddit from when the game was announced. I followed all the "leaks" and beta players talking about it, i remember them talking about dota 2 as a card game, with heroes fighting in 3 lanes and all. The way they talked about it made me imagine it just like dota 2, with hero models actually in lanes fighting each others, you had to manage their actions and skills with cards(a la slay the spire).

I mean, i come from a dota 2 past and i stupidly just imagined a dota 2 turn based tactic game, with cards. Now seeing what they've done, i'm not too disappointed with that they've done with Artifact, but i still believe they could have used the huge amount of models and cosmetics they have for dota 2, and make Artifact similar to what dota autochess is doing(graphically). They could have basically gone the f2p cosmetic route, having basically models to dress and earn money out of it.

I would have liked the 3 boards with hero models on them, with cool attack animations, like swords crossing and heroes confronting eachothers when they attack, zeus rising hand to the sky and actually casting thundergod's wrath and so on.

I know it's just a stupid post and it would have made sense when we still had no idea about how Artifact actually looked, but in my mind i see a lot of lost opportunities with this game, and to be clear, i like the game, i'm not complaining about it.

Also, i know there are a lot of other problems with the game right now, so don't take this as a suggestion or solution for Artifact, it's just a train of thought about what i was expecting from Artifact and wanted to share with you.

I just won another one by killing my own stuff this game is so good!

    Posted: 21 Jan 2019 09:52 AM PST

Just had a harsh VenoBlue vs RG-Ramp Match ... turn 7 put glyph into lane one with sky and creeps. Turn 8 opponent deployed 3 heroes there anyway (duh!) and i deployed luna into it because i prefer having 2 heroes in glyph lane.

Opponent uses jaspers and i decide to let him use TOT (instead of annihilating that shit instantly) and do his stuff (it was clear he was unlikely to be able to kill both heroes) ... at the end of his mana im stuck with both heroes surviving because he used phase boots to mess around with my plans (now im fucked because if i use annihilation he can just blink into first lane from 3rd but without using anni him blinking into glyph lane sets him up to have heroes wiped) ... i decided to use AAC to kill off my luna... Fast forward to end of next turn: glyph lane is empty and he can finally double blink into glyph lane... while i got unlucky in shop and got 4 non blink items in a row ... not an issue because i had double deploy, which was enough to prevent his lethal in first lane ... second lane got swiftly double bolted GG :)
