    Artifact supports Linux, so I will support Artifact.

    The minorities have to help each others. MTG doesn't have a linux client afaik, and neither does Heartstone. So I will test Artifact since Gabe has the courtesy of porting the game to linux. I encourage Linux lurkers to do the same, it's time to shine.

    But I still hate the marketing system and I will probably stick to phantom draft. They need to rethink this system. I want to build decks without having to constantly think about the money.

    Hints at upcoming puzzle mode from 28/1 update

    The latest update added a load of puzzle files with different scenarios that you can load using the console. It looks like there are different levels that you have to progress through, and they each have an intro that currently shows up as placeholder text.

    If you want to try it out, add "-console" to the artifact launch options, and type "load_puzzle puzzle_name.txt" in the in-game console. e.g. load_puzzle puzzle_re_test04c.txt .

    The later puzzles have cool mechanics such as spawning oglodi vandals and grunts instead of the creeps, kinda like fighting a red mist horde. You also start with all heroes down and different tower healths and cards drawn per turn.

    The deck codes call the mode "StA", e.g. this one from puzzle_re_test04c.txt.

    Artifact is Schizo - it Half-Caters to Casuals and Competitives, and Satisfies Neither

    It has...

    1. Skill Rating for competitives, but obfuscated to keep it casual. Casuals don't really care about skill ratings, and competitives want a pure MMR/ladder ranking. Current implementation satisfies neither.
    2. Account levelling to make you feel good, but nothing at all happens at most levels, aside from getting +1 level. Casuals don't care about hitting a level that doesn't do anything. Nor do competitives, if they care about grinded account levels at all. Current implementation satisfies neither.
    3. "Kitchen table feel" supposed to cater to casuals. You can't even casual draft 1v1 a friend. "Social" tournaments aren't publicly listed in the client. Current implementation satisfies neither.
    4. Very short timer, panicking casuals, scrambling to do anything useful. Competitives unable to consistently process and make advanced plays in a very complex game. Especially while streaming. Current implementation satisfies neither.
    5. [Insert additional schizo issues, and solutions.]

    Solution? Don't try to appease both crowds with the same systems, and, improve said systems.

    1. Give competitive players a ladder ranking.
    2. Spread out the account level rewards and reduce the number of levels (use the same total xp requirement). 1 "thing" per level (ticket or pack or avatar or whatever), so that levelling up always means something. If a level doesn't give anything, it should not exist.
    3. Stop trying to make a digital game have a kitchen table feel. Add 1v1 drafts. Allow listing tournaments publicly in the tourney lobby for spectating and joining.
    4. Stop shoehorning a one-size-fits-all timer. Give players a binary option in their favored format (Casual Constructed/Casual Phantom/Prized Constr/Prized Phantom/Global Match/etc./etc.) - fast, or slow.
    • If I'm a competitive player that wants a 5 minute timebank per game to judiciously spend on whichever decisions I want, let me do that.
    • If I'm a competitive player that wants 10 seconds per action, let me do that.
    • If I'm a casual player that wants a 5 minute timebank per game to judiciously spend on whichever decisions I want, let me do that.
    • If I'm a casual player that wants 10 seconds per action, let me do that.

    Everyone's Fast Mutation Allied heroes in all lanes have Rapid Deployment.
    Gold Rush Mutation Before the shopping phase, get 9 gold.
    Mana Boost Mutation Your towers in all lanes have +1 Mana. Before the shopping phase, modify Mana Boost with "Your towers in all lanes have +1 Mana."
    Misty World Mutation After the hero deployment phase, modify each ally in all lanes with +1 Attack.
    Mutation Holder Mutation -
    One Quarter Dead Mutation Your towers in all lanes have -10 Health. Your ancients in all lanes have -10 Health.
    One Scroll, Please Mutation Play Effect: Put a Town Portal Scroll card into your hand.
    The Factory Mutation Before the card draw phase, put a Golden Ticket card into your hand.

    These cards are IDs between 7000 and 7012. Similar to the Mutation game mode in Dota?

    Jeez, I can't believe that they didn't speed up it!

    It's by far the most annoying animation imho, because it has to pull the cards tigheter, then they fight, then it waits for the eventual Retaliate damage anche in the end it puts the cards back.

    It takes forever and the problem is also that you know the outcome since the start, so there is no point in waiting so long.

    I had no problem with old eclipse for this exact reason, because there you had to wait and see what happens after each iteration...

    The day I lost to a Musket

    If this kind of post is not allowed, I'm sorry, but I really need to get this off my chest. I've never been this pissed to a match of Artifact before.

    My record was at 2-1, so I needed to win the following match to get my ticket back, at least.

    I was losing the game pretty bad, however, I managed to do the right plays and was doing the comeback. I saved a lane that was at 8hp and destroyed my opponent's tower in this same lane. I was most likely going to win in the following turn, because my opponent's tower was at 5hp and I had lots of creeps and a Thunderhide Pack applying pressure.

    So, at that moment, all I had to do was to keep protecting my that was at 4hp, because of the Trebuchets. I had 3 heroes against a Drow. They play Gust, silencing 2 of them, but my Treant didn't get silenced. I was blocking both all the creeps and Drow, so I passed my turn in order to get the initiave on my side. It happens that I completely forgot that Drow had a Musket and my Treant was at 2hp. Then, with Treant dead, I wasn't able to play any cards and Drow destroyed my tower and won the game.

    What pisses me off so much is that I had 2 fucking ways of saving my Treant from dying:

    • A Vesture, that I used on Necro for no fucking reason;
    • And a Corrosive Mist, that would've got rid of the Musket.

    I lost a ticket and a great win because I was not paying enough attention. I really wish I had the replay on that, it would definitely had a place in Artifact fails of the week or some shit.

    At first I was disappointed that the patch only buffed items, but I realized it was way smarter to balance the game like this.

    If they changed a bunch of heroes or gameplay at the same time as items, it would be overwhelming to the meta and it might not be clear what worked for item changes or what worked for hero changes. The changes to things like Assassin's Veil are a buff the Red and Black cards, if they had buffed heroes of either color some heroes might become OP it wouldn't be clear if it was because of item changes or hero changes. It seems pretty clear they want to take their time and be very careful developing this game instead of rushing updates to get players back. Idk if that's a good thing or a bad thing yet, but Valve can surely afford to keep the game afloat and I hope some day the game reaches the potential it has.

    I was wondering do any of you have any thoughts on any heroes you want to share or ask about. Who are your favorites, ones that you wonder why aren't played competitive, ones that you think are going to be meta in certain decks and ones that are going to fall out of meta. Let me preface and say can we try to avoid suggesting certain heroes needing buffs or nerfs and talk about heroes in their current state
