I'm quitting school to become a Professional Artifact Player.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 06:49 AM PST

Like the title says, I have decided to quit university to become a professional esport Artifact player. I have never been good at anything in my life but I feel this is my chance to shine. I know a lot of people will tell me this is a big mistake... but I will try my hardest and even if I fail I will still be one of the top 2000 Artifact players in the world (since that's the number of active player base at the moment). Personally this is my best odds of becoming someone famous and successful. I will be aiming for the $1 million TI tournament. Wish me luck.

The little animation tweaks did make the gameplay more exciting.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 09:50 AM PST

Extremely fond of the decisions the dev team made in this patch. I see my number of games per day increasing easily to 5 or 6 all the way up from 2 or 3. (Just finished my 7th game)

It makes they gameplay much more fast paced and energetic, and I don't seem to be getting bored very quickly.

Artifact reminds me about why I love TCG's in the first place.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 04:30 PM PST

Just yesterday I posted and questioned you guys on why twitter is dead and if the game still has players. And after playing I just have to say, yes, it has its flaws, but at its core its a masterpiece.

I am used to f2p CCG's, all of them, HS, Gwent, TES Legends, Shadowverse etc and each has its own rank ladder, cosmetics and a bunch of Grinding to be number one on the leader board. While I play them I sometimes forget why I play card games in the first place.

Artifact has a real comic book store, table top TCG feel to it. You can sit down and talk with your opponent while you play and discuss the meta, the state of the game you both love and some weird combo's you are trying while having a friendly laugh while you at it. I remember why I love card games everytime I jump into a game of Artifact! Whether you win or lose it doesn't matter, you and the person you played with get some XP that contribute to a few packs every other week. There is no stigma about being number one or not losing. And no struting around showing off your huge ego with borders and titles. The experience of playing Artifact is the reward.

While other card games try to make your experience rewarding by giving you tons of packs worth not a cent or meaningless cosmetics to show off, Artifact brings you back to the very reason we all enjoy TCG's.

I don't know how many of you can still enjoy Magic at your local comic book store with tons of people to play with or against but I can't (Those places are where it all started years ago) and this is the only game that reminds me even vagualy about those days.

Patch 1/18/2019 - Quality of Life

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 09:45 AM PST

Yesterdays patch is the largest quality of life improvement the game has seen since release. The game runs smooth, transitions from screen to screen are on point and the game just feels more 'complete/polished'.

Thanks for listening Valve, this is step one. We have a large staircase to climb, and we will get there, one step at a time.

    Monogreen actually winning

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 03:31 PM PST

    https://www.playartifact.com/d/ADCJecRPrgCg08MDHC7AkZGqQGTgUyYQUFxAa4CbQGYW0ddIE1pbmlvbiBLaWxsZXI_

I named this deck Minion Killer, because that's what it does; kills minions and survives long enough to widdle out your opponent.

I have been dabbling in many monogreen versions for weeks now. I think I finally found one that actually works. I tried many different heroes including dark seer, abaddon, magnus, rix, even farvhan. Some of the 3x cards became 0x like soul of spring, and even cheating death started as a 3x, then a 1x, later a 0x, and now its a 2x. This is probably the most polished deck of monogreen I have made so far.

    Heroes

Lycan - Lycan is important as a flop hero because his passive makes your minions kill opponents minions. His minion, Savage Wolf, is important as a blocker or as an early card to gain control over a lane.

Omniknight - Omni is important as a flop hero because he can't die on the flop unless you get very unlucky. Omni will usually be your stall hero, going to a lane to die and stall the game one more turn.

Treant - Treant is important as a flop hero to keep your minions alive but mostly just for the health. Treant is played for his sig, Roseleaf Druid, which is an important ramp card in any matchup.

Drow - Drow is a turn hero because of 2 reasons. You have 3x mist of avernus + drow aura to help your new minions kill opponents new/old minions. The second reason is to keep drow safe with cheating death or steal strength which cost 4.

Chen - Chen is important for his card, NOT for his ability. His ability is utter trash, but can "win" by taking a blocker away from your opponent. Hand of God, chen's sig, is important if you don't draw your payoffs, or if you ramp and need to stall for one more turn. Now, I know all of you are saying, "Just run divine intervention". Divine Intervention is not a good stall card because it doesn't heal your units. With hand of god, your units will most likely survive for 2+ turns, not necessarily with divine intervention.

    Win Conditions

You have a lot of win conditions in this deck. Emissary and both thunderhides in the deck means you have constant minion pressure, which can also be used as blockers and/or hero killers in the late game. You also have 2x intimidation. This used to be a 3x, but with the drow inclusion and her sig, Gust, you don't need more than 2 intimidation. Try to save intimidation for the late game, or to be really aggressive and shove an enemy hero into a lane that the opponent has already won.

    Tech Cards and Interactions

Cheating Death - Cheating death is a 2x in this deck. You will use cheating death to keep heroes alive, keep minions alive, or to counter things like annihilation and coup de grace. "Condemn" effects are counted as a death, and the death shield says "When a unit dies, instead it lives with 1 health" So, you can use cheating death to save a hero or unit from death if your worried about those cards. Important: Regeneration does not count after combat, so if the unit has regeneration and cheating death, it will still live at 1 health assuming it would die. Retaliate does not count after the death shield procs, so retaliate does not kill the unit with death shield after the combat phase. Stonehall Cloak is VERY IMPORTANT to put on a hero that you will use cheating death on because it makes said hero live with 3 health instead of 1 health, assuming it would die, to counter things like ignite and march of the machines.

Ramp - This deck runs the standard ramp cards like the RG Ramp decks. 3x Stars Align, 3x Selemenes Favor, and 3x Roseleaf Druid. It is very important to get your ramp out immediately, even if you have to sacrifice a hero for it. This is because you have a lot of top end. That doesn't mean you are useless if you don't draw your ramp because you can survive/stall for a long time with allseeing one's favor, cheating death, steal strength, and mist of avernus. Important: This deck BEATS RG Ramp. Why? Because it is more flexible of where it ramps. It being 5 green heroes means any lane can be a ramping lane, not just the first lane like RG Ramp usually does. More flexibility means more consistency, which means most of the time you will win the game assuming proper play.

Intimidation - This is the "gust to the next level" card. Most of the time when you silence a hero, it will get jasper'd and you just wasted 4 mana. With intimidation, it can't be jasper'd because, well, the enemy hero isn't in the active lane anymore. Intimidation is mostly used on blue heroes that are looking to annihilate or in the BU matchup where vestures are undoubtedly going to be on the field. It could also be useful if you are worried about a card and want to get rid of enemy plays for a lane.

Emissary or Thunderhide - I have 8 mana and both cards in my hand, what do I do? Ask yourself some questions, can I take the tower? If yes, usually thunderhide. Does my opponent have any counterplays? If no, usually emissary. Can I 80? If yes, usually emissary. Emissary is usually the better play, but in some cases thunderhide is better.

Mist of avernus - This is a weird card because of the drow aura and the fact that your heroes aren't always the strongest fighters. If you can use it to trade early game, DO IT. If you can use it to 80, DO IT. If there is a lane with cheating death already in it, most of the time you will also want to use mist there. This is because you can save creeps with cheating death to keep getting mist value.

    Item Deck

You have a very cheap item deck. 2x Revtel Signet Rings and 3x Stonehall Cloaks are in the deck because you want to keep your heroes alive, especially your drow and chen. Usually you will play stonehall cloak on drow, lycan, and treant and ring chen. Omni usually doesn't need any items because of his health and active, but late game Omni is usually the "stall the lane" so it might need it. Blink dagger is a 2x, because you are about barely surviving, not dueling a hero and blinking to another lane. So, 2x blink dagger is enough. Jasper is there for obvious reasons, the purge is nice and the pierce is really good.

It is a very satisfying deck to play and win with. I know this was long, and if you made it this far, ENJOY!

ASAP Artifact Podcast #8: "Interview with Gela"

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 11:26 AM PST

Steam Market manipulation hurts the game for new players.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 04:22 PM PST

    https://imgur.com/a/wx0TwDI

If you played Dota 2 or CS:GO you know how the steam market works. You know the vast amount of websites that sell cosmetics for real money cheaper than steam prices. And you probably know these websites use bots/traders to maintain steam accounts that buy steam market goods cheap and sell them high to users.

Now in those games those people don't really matter, cosmetics are unimportant, you can have as many colored TB arcanas you want, if you're a 400 GPM scrub carry you'll still lose the game.

But in Artifact is different, you need the cards to be play the game fully. Having "xxxx bitskins.com" bot/trader buying 50 axes a day and trying to sell it 15.5% more expensive for a whooping 0.05% profit ensures that the market prices fall down to their organic, equilibrium prices much slower. The goal of the cards in Artifact are to be played and to end up in the players collections, not to be used as trading stocks where manipulators try to get <15% value trades day and night.

With the demand for cards as low as it is right now the prices would be lower if it wasn't for the market manipulators. Someone could reply and say "Valve makes %15 off of every trade, why would they stop the market manipulation?" And it's a choice they have to make but the game's longevity depends on people more people playing and in the position they're in, their decisions should be player focused rather than market focused.

I'll point out one thing that hasn't been talked for a while, which is the prices for the game in third world countries. While $95.57 dollars for the full collection is great for americans and europeans, the collection costs: 509.29 Liras (turkish money), 358.67 Reais (brazilian money), 6324.31 Russian rubles, 5028.28 phillipines pesos. You don't need to live in a third world country to realize these prices are much more impactful for those people. Keep in mind that those countries have huge populations and make up for a HUGE share of the people that play Dota 2 and CS:GO. Even the $2 price per pack is a lot for people from those countries but that's for another discussion...

TL;DR: Steam Market Manipulators prevent prices from going lower faster; Lower prices make the game more accessible for more people, specially in developing countries

Now some possible solutions to this:

    • Valve pays someone to search and ban traders accounts. Which Valve is not going to do because that's just not what Valve ever does. And it's probably not even a good idea since it would permanently remove the cards from the market.

    • Valve creates market regulations that would prevent these traders to do their "jobs". Like not allowing anyone to buy more than 5 copies of the same card or putting a cooldown on buying and selling the same card, idk, It's their job to find the answer to this.

What's the interaction between removing HP modifer buffs/items and Damage Immunity?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2019 05:11 PM PST

After watching that Aphotic Shield play against the ToT Bristleback it got me thinking what the interaction is with Damage Immunity/Death Shield with removing HP modifiers.

Is the removed HP damage blocked by Damage Immunity? Could have Death Shield saved Bristleback?

Also we would probably get negative HP modifiers from Undying's Decay. So that's fun to think about.
